Chapter 6
When Celia woke up again, the sharp smell of disinfectant told her she was back in the hospital.
The room was empty except for a nurse checking the monitors.
Seeing her awake, the nurse said matter–of–factly, “Mr. Graves and Mr. Silas asked me to check on your condition.”
Celia nodded numbly and struggled to sit up. The nurse handed her a medical report, the words “terminal cancer” practically jumping off the page.
She dragged her aching body out of the room, but as she passed Raya’s room, familiar voices drifted through the door.
“Mom, Dad, don’t worry about me. I’m fine. Aurelian and Silas are taking such good care of me.”
Raya’s voice was sickeningly sweet, then took on a fake worried tone. “Oh, by the way, I heard Celia fell overboard too. Aren’t you… gonna ask how she’s doing?”
After a brief silence, her parents‘ cold voices came through the phone: “She brought it on herself. We only care about you.”
Standing outside the door, Celia felt her heart being crushed by an invisible fist.
The parents who had once adored her didn’t even care if she lived or died anymore.
She turned to leave, but the door suddenly swung open.
Raya stood there with a victor’s smile. “You heard all that, didn’t you?”
Celia looked at her calmly. “Yeah.”
“So you’ve known all along that Mom, Dad, and I faked our deaths, haven’t you?” Raya stepped closer.
Celia met her eyes, her voice flat. “So what if I did? This was all your idea, wasn’t it? Why are you so hell–bent on destroying me?”
“Why?” Raya laughed, her smile twisted with sick satisfaction. “Because you were born the precious Fairborne princess while I grew up getting kicked around in foster care! Because everyone loved you while I had nothing!”
Her voice grew shriller. “I wanted to take everything that was yours! Your parents, your brother, your fiancé… I wanted you to know what it feels like to have absolutely nothing!”
Hearing all this, Celia didn’t feel angry. She’d learned to be smarter than that.
The necklace around her neck was actually a recording device.
Every word of Raya’s confession was being captured.
Raya kept gloating: “Your parents and Silas are such idiots–they couldn’t see through the most obvious setup.”
She laughed mockingly. “And Aurelian? He used to love you so much, but now he only has eyes for me. Face it, Celia–you’ll never win against me!”
Then she suddenly stepped back, madness flashing in her eyes. “Actually, I’ve got one more trick up my sleeve. Get ready to find out what hell feels like, Celia.”
Celia’s heart jumped, but before she could react, Raya spun around and threw herself out the window without hesitation!
THUD!
The sickening sound of impact echoed from below.

Chapter 6
Celia froze, her ears ringing.
Then she heard familiar voices screaming from the courtyard.
“Raya!”
She stumbled to the window and saw Aurelian and Silas rushing toward Raya’s broken body on the grass below.
They were carrying fancy pastry bags–obviously they’d just been out buying her favorite cakes.
Aurelian scooped up the bloodied Raya, his voice shaking. “Hold on, I’m getting you to the ER right now!”
Silas followed with tears in his eyes, shouting, “Doctor! Get a doctor!”
Medical staff rushed over with a gurney, wheeling Raya toward the operating room.
As they passed Celia, Raya weakly opened her eyes and pointed a trembling finger at her. “She… Miss Fairborne pushed me…”
The words hit Celia like a slap of cold water. Her whole body went still.
She watched Aurelian and Silas turn toward her, their eyes cold as poison daggers piercing straight through her heart.
“Grab her,” Silas said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “Tie her up and take her to the roof.”
He walked over slowly, looking down at her. “Since you pushed her off, you should get a taste of the same medicine.”
The bodyguards immediately grabbed Celia’s wrists roughly.
In the past, she would have screamed explanations, fought back, begged for mercy.
But now she just looked at them numbly. “If I told you I didn’t do it, would you believe me?”
Aurelian let out a harsh laugh. “Someone with your track record? Why the hell should we believe you?”
Celia smiled, tears sliding silently down her cheeks.
Yeah. She should have known.
They were never going to believe her.
