Chapter 17
After Aurora left, Sophia was still i
immersed in fear. She ran back to the villa, tears streaming down her face, and burst into Madeline’s room.
“Mom, Mom, you must teach Aurora a lesson!” Sophia cried, her tears falling like rain, making Madeline’s heart ache.
“Sophia, come here, don’t cry. Tell Mom what that wicked girl did to you this time?” Madeline helped her daughter пр and asked.
Sophia, sobbing and stammering, told her mother about the plan to bully Aurora, saying. “She threatened me, saying she’ll take everything important from me, that I won’t be the Pendleton family’s young lady anymore, and she’ll take Ethan away. Mom, I can’t live without Ethan!”
“That little wretch! How dare she! Sophia, don’t be afraid, Mom’s here, she won’t take anything away!” Madeline comforted.
How could she tolerate her precious daughter being bullied like this by that lowly girl?
Madeline thought for a moment and asked, “You just said that Aurora admitted she’s been disgraced?”
Sophia, still sobbing, replied, “Yes, yes.”
Madeline’s heart leaped with joy. That meant Aurora had indeed been insulted by those thugs. With so many men, one of them might have gotten her pregnant unexpectedly, right? Even if not, she could forge evidence and spread the news, ruining Aurora’s reputation throughout the entire
city!
Madeline whispered this plan to Sophia, who immediately brightened up. Aurora, just you wait!
These days, Aurora often accompanied Grandpa, playing chess with him. One day, while playing, she complained, “Grandpa, your chess skills are so superb, why can’t you let me win a round?”
“Chess is about real skill; how can I just let you win? I’m training you, Grandpa said, smiling-
“You
ou’re just bullying me, defeating me utterly. See if I ever play chess with you again, what will you do?” Aurora retorted.
“Miss, your grandpa looks forward to seeing you every day. The others are always busy, but you’re the one who comes to visit him regularly,” Mr. Leen said from the side.
“Nonsense! You make it sound like I’m all alone and unwanted. If she doesn’t come, she doesn’t come. I don’t care!” Grandpa
Grandpa snapped.
“Yes, yes, Grandpa doesn’t care about me at all. I’m the one who insists on coming to bother him. If I don’t see Grandpa for a day, I feel all out of sorts: Aurora teased.
“You cheeky girl!” Grandpa laughed and scolded
“Mr. Pendeleton, Mr. Heath Fairbank has arrived,” a servant announced.
Aurora was startled. Heath was here?
Heath, dressed in a sleek black suit, entered the yard. His face was cold and handsome, and he had a commanding presence. No matter how you. looked at him, he was easy on the eyes, Aurora thought, infatuated.
“Heath, you’re here, come and sit!” Grandpa called, smiling.
“Mr. Pendeleton, how have you been feeling lately? Heath asked, taking a seat.
“Good! Good! Auruta coines e
every day to play chess and chat with me. How could I not i
feel good?” Grandpa praised Aurora:
Murora is indeed filial, coming to accompany you every day,” Heath said, smiling. When he smiled, he looked even more enchanting, like a melting iceberg, captivating to behold.
Ordinary women never caught Heath’s eye, and he usually addressed the other Pendleton daughters formally. But when it came to Aurora, he called her by her first name, not “Miss Pendleton.”
Grandpa had an idea and asked, “Heath, it seems you and my granddaughter get along well?“

Heath smiled slightly,
“We’ve m
met a few times, and Aurora has left a deep impression.”
Aurora almost spat out her water at Heath. What deep impression? Grandpa was clearly trying to matchmake them. Heath shouldn’t say things that could be misunderstood!
Then Grandpa and Heath talked about some business matters, and Aurora was almost falling asleep when Heath suddenly asked, “Aurora, have you thought about what major you want to study in college?”
Aurora was caught off guard by the question, but Grandpa answered, “The Pendleton family has a big star like Maxwell. It wouldn’t be bad for Sophia and Aurora to go into acting.”
Heath frowned and said, “Aurora is not cut out for acting.”
Just thinking about this young girl on TV, laughing and arguing with others, made him feel a fire in his heart.
Aurora felt uncomfortable. She and Heath had only had dinner once, and because of that accident, they had a slight connection. But they were not close enough for Heath to decide her future.
So, with a hint of defiance, she said, “Why not? I think I’m pretty enough now. Being a big star is not out of the question.”
