Chapter 13
Just as Silas was feeling guilty about misunderstanding Raya and wanted to go apologize, he heard something crash inside her room, followed by Raya’s voice filled with rage.
“Fucking Celia! I thought things would finally calm down after she died, but nope–should’ve known better. I don’t know what kind of crap she pulled. but now everyone’s crying over her like she was some damn saint.”
“Can’t even stay quiet in the grave!”
Hearing Raya’s words outside, Silas immediately frowned. He’d thought she’d accidentally broken something and was worried about her.
But now he pulled back his hand from the door handle and stood quietly outside, even holding his breath.
He wanted to know what else Raya might say when she thought no one was listening.
And she didn’t disappoint.
“That bitch Celia had nine damn lives. A car crash, falling off a roof–nothing could kill her.”
“But what good did it do her in the end? She’s still dead.”
Silas’s breathing stopped.
So all those incidents were Raya’s doing. She’d been trying to kill Celia this whole time?
All the strange things from recent months suddenly connected.
The reason Raya wasn’t surprised or sad about Celia’s death was because she’d orchestrated it all.
From beginning to end, she’d wanted Celia dead so she could completely take her place in the Fairborne family.
Silas slammed the door open, his eyes bloodshot as he stared at Raya.
Glass fragments sparkled on the floor, telling the whole story.
And the woman who hadn’t had time to hide her twisted expression–who else could it be but Raya?
When she heard the noise and looked up, she met his eyes directly.
Without her usual gentle facade, he almost couldn’t believe this was the same Raya who’d at worst been a bit spoiled from the family’s affection.
But thinking of what she’d just said, it all made perfect sense.
Silas approached her, looking down at her panicked expression, his voice dripping with barely controlled rage.
“Raya, what really happened when you fell from that hospital window? Was it actually Celia trying to frame you?”
Hearing his question, she knew he’d overheard everything. She was panicking inside but managed to compose herself.
She tentatively reached for Silas’s hand, and when he didn’t pull away, she felt more confident and put on her usual act.
“Silas, let me explain…”
Before she could finish, voices came from downstairs–Aurelian and the staff.
“Where’s Raya?”

Chapter 13
“Miss is sleeping. Please come back tomorrow.”
Then came the sound of footsteps on the stairs.
The next moment, Aurelian stood before Raya, his eyes red with fury.
Seeing him like this, Raya felt a wave of terror.
But she quickly regained her composure. “Aurelian, why are you here so late? I’ve already forgiven you for today. I know you’re upset about Celia’s…
AH!”
Before she could finish, Aurelian’s hand struck her face, sending her to the floor.
Raya touched her swollen, burning cheek, staring at Aurelian in disbelief. Soon her eyes filled with tears, blurring her vision. “Aurelian, how could you
hit me?”
Her trembling voice seemed to plead her innocence, but her usual tactics that always worked before only fueled his rage more.
Aurelian grabbed her throat, his eyes blazing with fury. “Even now, you still want to lie?!”
His grip tightened around her neck. Stars danced before her eyes as suffocation set in. She instinctively clawed at his hands.
She gasped desperately for air, but it was useless–only making her throat drier..
Finally, perhaps seeing her distress, he mercifully loosened his grip.
A terrifying mark appeared on Raya’s pale neck. She greedily gulped fresh air, but then he yanked her hair, forcing her to look up at him.
“What did you do to Celia? Why did you deceive all of us?!”
Aurelian threw Raya to the ground. Her head hit the table, blood seeping from her forehead.
Neither man moved to help her.
Aurelian threw all the evidence at her, the sharp paper edges cutting her skin and drawing blood.
“All the proof is right here! What else can you say?!”
Silas knelt down and picked up the scattered reports from the floor.
All the past truths were laid bare. Ile looked at Raya with complete disgust.
Conrad and Millicent, hearing the commotion, rushed over. Seeing Raya kneeling on the floor with blood on her forehead, they quickly entered.
“How could you two treat Raya like this!”
Millicent started to pull Raya up from the floor, but Silas stopped her.
“Look at what your precious Raya has really done!”
