Chapter 23
“Mr. Whitmore, seems like you ain’t keen on discussing business? Heath was getting a bit impatient.
“Miss Aurora, are you alright?” Little Fish asked.
y up all
Ever since Aurora heard Heath in the video, something felt off. Little Fish sensed that Aurora had suddenly turned into a shield, putting up her defenses in an instant.
And now, Aurora wasn’t just a shield; she was like a cat that had its tail stepped on. She looked scared but also as if she wanted to pounce and take a bite. Her fists were clenched, trembling slightly.
Hearing Little Fish, Heath looked up at Aurora.
Her face was pale, almost bloodless. Her eyes were filled with a mix of fear and resentment, glaring at the laptop in his hands as if she was about to leap over and devour it.
Initially, Heath had no intention of paying attention to Aurora. Ever since their inexplicable clash, he had considered her nothing more than an interesting young lady, hardly worth his concern.
But now, her current state left him no choice.
Heath stood up, walked over to Aurora, and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Aurora bit her lip, not saying a word. Or perhaps, she didn’t even hear him.
Little Fish was getting anxious. She mustered the courage to say, “Mr. Fairbank, should we call Dr. Fane back? Miss Aurora doesn’t look so good.”
Heath placed his hand on Aurora’s shoulder and asked again, “Aurora, what’s wrong?”
Only then did he realize she was slightly trembling, as if suppressing immense fear,
I’m fine, I’m fine,” Aurora finally said, trying to compose herself.
Heath frowned. He didn’t like this side of Aurora. She seemed to be carrying too many burdens for her age. No matter how bad her mood or emotional state, she would always say, “I’m fine.”
He felt irritated. If she said she was fine, then there was no need for him to care..
Heath returned to his seat, picked up his laptop, and resumed the video coll,
Aurora snapped back to reality and focused on the video content.
Heath was discussing a collaboration with Isabella Whitmore’s father. There was no mention of the recent conflict over a shipment Aurora had met many businessmen like this–able to smile and cooperate in public, regardless of the dirty tricks played behind the scenes.
Heath seemed to be partnering with the Whitmore family for the American electronics market. It was a wise choice to collaborate with the Whitmores, a prestigious family with extensive connections.
But the Fairbanks were no pushovers either. A century–old family from the capital, they had substantial power. The Whitmore family would also benefit greatly from this partnership.
Heath seemed unhappy about the Whitmore family undercutting him last time, so the video call felt somewhat perfunctory, keeping the Whitmore family on the hook.
After a long discussion without any conclusion, Heath said, “I have other matters to attend to. Let’s talk next time.”
Mr. Whitmore cautiously agreed, “How about tomorrow night at right?”
Heath nodded in agreement.
The call ended, and Aurora started calculating. Eight tomorrow night meant morning in the US. She had to do something to prevent the Whitmore family from easily scaling the deal.

She hesitated for a moment, glanced at Heath, who seemed uninterested in her, and cautiously asked, “You don’t want to collaborate with the Whitmore family, do you?”
Heath looked up at her and simply said, “Confidential.”
Screw your confidentiality!
Last time, Kieran said the same thing about the shipment! And what happened? He told her everything!
And now it’s confidential?
Just because of that random argument they had?
Aurora swore she had never met a man so petty,
But what could she do? She wanted information on the Whitmore family, and Heath was the quickest source. Gritting her teeth, she swallowed her pride and said, “Actually, I never wanted to be a star…..”
Heath didn’t even look up, “Your career choices are none of my business.”
Seriously? What does it take to get through to this guy?
Aurora had had enough. “Little Fish, let’s go!”
Little Fish nodded and promptly opened the office door for Aurora. Just as Aurora was about to step out, Heath’s voice came from behind, “I’m open to collaboration, but it doesn’t have to be with the Whitmore family,”
Aurora felt like she was about to choke on her own frustration. One day, she swore, Heath Fairbank would be the death of her.
