Chapter 24
Aurora was so pissed off at Heath that she stormed out of the hospital.
When Lysande
e on the sofa.
Lysander Fane returned to the office, only Heath was left, lounging on
“Wow, the great Mr. Fairbank also has days when he’s lo
left hanging?” Lysander joked.
You have to understand, Heath Fairbank comes from a century–old elite family in the capital and is the favorite youngest son. He’s practically half the heir to the Fairbank family, controlling a significant part of the Fairbank Corporation.
Add to that his drop–dead good looks and icy demeanor, and as Lysander would say, he’s a walking marriage certificate. High–society women are falling over themselves to spend a night with him. Being associated with Heath is like gilding yourself.
But here’s Miss Aurora, leaving Heath all by himself. That’s some character.
“Scram,” Heath spat out, clearly in a bad mood.
Lysander tossed a couple of papers on the table. Take a look. What kind of medication has Miss Aurora been on?”
Heath glanced at it but didn’t move. He couldn’t care less.
Lysander chuckled. “She said her stepmother gave her these meds. Man, she really wants to ruin her.”
“Spit it out!” Heath snapped.
“Alright, alright. Most of these meds have hormonal components, I heard Miss Aurora used to be quite chubby; this explains it. A small portion is anti–depressants, Lysander explained.
“Anti–depressants? What happens if you take them? Heath asked.
“In layman’s terms, they’re nerve blockers. If a healthy person takes too many, it could affect their cognitive functions. Basically, they could become an idiot. Her stepmother really wants her to be both fat and dumb, Lysander sighed.
Heath thought about how sweet Aurora looked when she smiled. She didn’t seem dumb,
“But from what Miss Aurora said, she’s been taking these for over a decade and seems pretty lively and not dumb at all,” Lysander added.
Heath shot him a look, “You wish she was dumb?”
Lysander caught the warning in Heath’s eyes and chuckled nervously, “No… no,”
Just as Lysander settled into his seat, a man sneaked
the pr
office, looking around cautiously before sitting down.
“Did you register? Lysander asked, annoyed..
The man inquired, “Was there a young girl here for a check–up? Around 18 or 197”
“Why do you ask?” Lysander paused.
The man pulled out a bulky envelope and placed it on the table. “Doctor, that’s our young miss. She had a falling out with her boyfriend and is pregnant. She’s still young; this could ruin her reputation. Could you give us her test results?”
Lysander knew that Aurora was marginalized in the Pendleton family. Who would care about her reputation?
confidential patient Information,” Lysander hesitated.
“Doctor, please make an exception. Give me the test results, and this money is yours,” the man pushed the envelope forward.
Lysander pretended to be conflicted, “Let me go check.”
He went behind the curtain where Heath was sitting, unseen by the man. Lysander looked at Heath, silently asking if he should give it.
Heath nodded.
Lysander returned, printed the text results, and handed them to the man. ‘Don’t tell anyone / gave this to you. I could lose my te
The man left, grinning from ear to ear.
Lysander weighed the envelope, “First time being bribed, and it’s only fifty thousand.”
Just then. Kieran walked in, “Boss, shall we head back to the company?”
Heath nodded, stood up, grabbed the envelope, and handed it to Kieran as he left the office.
Lysander chuckled. This man really doesn’t let himself get the short end of the stick, does he?
