Chapter 28
Heath stepped out of the car at the hotel, only to find Aurora fast asleep. With a sigh, he picked her up, noting she felt lighter than the last time he’d held her. “Guess she’s really working on that diet,” he thought.
Little Fish had been plied with alcohol by Aurora and was stumbling around. Kieran booked her a separate room and then returned to his own.
“Guess the boss is taking care of Miss Aurora himself,” Kieran mused. “I’ll leave them to it. Hopefully, they’ll take this chance to deepen their relationship. She’d make a great Mrs. Fairbank
Heath carried Aurora into their usual presidential suite, a two–bedroom affair. He gently laid her down in the second bedroom and called for a female attendant to bring her a set of pajamas.
After the attendant left, Aurora woke up, disoriented. The room was sparsely decorated, reminding her of Abyss. “Why am I back here? Isabella will kill me again!“
Panicked, she jumped out of bed. Her legs wobbled due to the alcohol, and she stumbled, falling next to the coffee table. Spotting a fruit knife, she instinctively grabbed it for protection.
Her mind was a jumble. She remembered partying with Jasper Bennett and the others. Then it hit her–Isabella had killed Arno. “I have to do something!”
“I have to tell Dominic Ashcroft that I’m not a traitor!” she thought.
Fresh out of the shower and in his bathrobe, Heath stepped out of his room, intending to check on Aurora. He was startled to find her sitting on the carpet, knife in hand.
Before he could approach, she saw him and rushed over. “Did you find me? Did you bring me back?”
Thinking she was talking about the bar, Heath nodded.
Aurora smiled, gripping his bathrobe tightly. Then do you believe me? I’m not a traitor. I didn’t betray you!”
Heath realized she wasn’t talking about him. Aurora mistook his silence for disbelief.
“Why don’t you believe me? Jasper said I’ve always been loyal to you!” Aurora burst into tears.
Heath’s face turned cold. “Loyal to whom?”
“Ive risked my life for you so many times! Why don’t you believe me? Why didn’t you save me? Everyone’s dead–Mike, Arno, even me…” Aurora
sobbed.

Heath was annoyed. “Aurora Pendleton, who have you risked your life for? Who am I to you?”
“I’m not Aurora Pendleton! Stop calling me that!” she snapped.
“Then who are you?” Heath pressed.
“I can’t say. I’m too weak now. If she finds me, she’ll kill me again,” Aurora whispered.
“Who wants to kill you? Heath asked.
*Your fiancée! She stabbed me in the leg like this,” Aurora demonstrated with the fruit knife, “cut my tendons, scarted my face, and left me for the wolves. Why didn’t you save me? It hurts so much!TM
Heath was horrified. “Autora, tell me, who wants to kill you?”
“I hurt so much… Aurora whimpered
“Where does it hurt?” Heath asked.
“My heart hurts 5 She shot me in the chest. It hurts so much…..” Aurora rambled.

Heath gently touched her head. “Aurora, give me the knife. It’s dangerous.”
Tears clouding her eyes, she looked at him. “Will you protect me?”
“Of course,” Heath nodded.
Aurora handed him the knife and leaned into his embrace, sobbing, “Dominic, I’m so scared.”
Heath stiffened, his face turning icy. So, she was in his home, acting all sweet, but the name on her lips was someone else’s?
