Chapter 21
“Celia, you’ve been sleeping for a month. Why won’t you wake up? I miss you so much…”
Suddenly he felt weak movement from the hand he was holding. He immediately fell silent and stared intently at Celia’s hand in his palm.
It moved–it really moved! Tears of joy streaming down his face, Aurelian quickly called for the doctor. After a flurry of activity, Celia fully awakened, though she was still weak from just waking up and soon fell asleep again.
Immersed in overwhelming joy, Aurelian didn’t notice the look in Celia’s eyes when she first woke up and saw him.
For the following period, he stayed by her side constantly during her recovery, refusing to leave her for even a moment unless absolutely necessary.
Since waking up, Celia had been very quiet, spending her days in a daze, completely ignoring Aurelian who sat beside her talking constantly. Aurelian noticed something was off but assumed she just hadn’t fully recovered yet and didn’t think much of it.
lete recover
In the days before Celia’s complete recovery, she kept finding various excuses to send Aurelian away. At first he was afraid that if he left, Celia would disappear, but each time he returned, she was waiting obediently for him, so gradually he relaxed.
Today, when Celia asked Aurelian for New York–style cheesecake from Uptown and warm cinnamon rolls from a little bakery in Brooklyn, he didn’t even blink–just grabbed his keys and went.
“Stay home and be good. I’ll be back soon. If there’s anything else you want, just text me.”
For some reason, Aurelian felt anxious while out buying food today–just like the day of Celia’s accident, his heart was racing uncontrollably. He pulled out his phone to call her.
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is powered off…”
The automated message confirmed his unease. He immediately turned around and rushed home.
He ran countless red lights on the way. Arriving home, he didn’t even turn off the engine before abandoning the car and running into the house.
The house was empty. He searched every room in the villa but found no trace of Celia.
His anxiety was confirmed once again. On the living room coffee table lay Celia’s phone and a letter.
Aurelian slowly opened it.
Aurelian,
I had a very long dream. I dreamed that you, like Silas and my family, only had eyes for Raya, and because of her words, you tortured me endlessly. The dream ended with me jumping into the cold river water, without struggle, without reluctance.
After waking up in the hospital, it took me a long time to accept this present that’s different from my dream. But I can’t accept it–I can’t continue being with you without reservation, pretending nothing happened.
I know you had the same dream too, which is why you’ve been so anxious about losing me…
Writing this, there’s so much I want to say to you, yet it feels like there’s nothing left to say.
I wish you peace and health in your future life, just without me in it.
After reading the letter, all the strange behavior from recent weeks suddenly made sense. Celia had been reborn too.
Aurelian wept bitterly.

Chapter 21
Just as grief overwhelmed him to the point of fainting, he suddenly heard the beeping of machines and medical staff giving orders.
Sharp pain shot through his body. Opening his eyes in confusion, he found himself in a hospital emergency room.
So it was all a dream. But why wouldn’t even his dreams give him a happy ending?
Celia, do you really refuse to forgive me?
I’m coming to join you.
As the last tear fell from Aurelian’s eye, the heart monitor let out a piercing alarm.
The once–regular rhythm of the heartbeat line was suddenly yanked straight by an invisible hand, becoming a glaring flat line.
