After Bianca and Dwain exchanged WhatsApp info, she heard Winnie’s voice. She didn’t lift her head, letting the words pass her by as though they were just air.

Blair’s eyes briefly swept over to Bianca. She was eating quietly, seemingly uninterested in what he and Winnie had just discussed.

In his memory, she had always been the one who closer to Winnie. So why had she become so distant now?
During that half–year when he was on a business trip to a neighboring region, she would video call Winnie almost every day. But now, she hadn’t even asked about her once.
“Daddy, Diane’s here. I’m going to play with the blocks now. You should rest well when you’re done.”
With that, Winnie ended the call.
Virgil, who had been listening, felt a wave of confusion wash over her.

‘Who could that be?‘ he wondered.
He glanced around the table. There were only three women present, two of whom were already married. The only possible candidate, Bianca, was sitting far away from Blair.

Virgil thought maybe he had misheard.
When he raised his glass again, he smiled and said, “So, Mr. Avery is already married.”
Blair’s tone was casual. “Yes, I have a very cute daughter.”

Virgil smiled even more broadly. “She’s like she gets along really well with her nanny too.”
“Nanny?” Blair raised an eyebrow, looking at Virgil.
“Yes, Diane?” Virgil said, completely unaware of who “Diane” was.
Blair didn’t seem to mind, but suddenly, he felt like leaving. He stood up, his voice still calm as he said, “I’m full. You all enjoy the meal.”
With that, he picked up his jacket and started walking toward the door.
As he passed Bianca’s seat, he stopped almost involuntarily. “Aren’t you leaving?”
He wasn’t even sure if he was asking her.
Bianca heard his words. If this had been in the past, she would have immediately followed him.

So, he must not have been talking to her.
After a brief silence, Blair raised his voice again. “Corey…”
Corey jumped up immediately. “Coming.”

As Blair was about to leave, Virgil stood up to see him off.
Bianca didn’t move, quietly continuing to eat without saying a word.

“I have a good friend who graduated from there as well.”

“I heard from the principal that you’re leaving for the city tomorrow?”
“Yes, my time in the countryside is up.”
“Well, if I’m ever in Ylagos, would you let me invite you to dinner?”
Bianca paused, thinking for a moment before responding, “If you come to Ylagos, I’ll treat you to a meal. It would be an honor.”
