“My daughter–in–law carried that boy for nine months and gave birth to him! From prenatal checkups to delivery, it’s all documented. She nearly died from hemorrhaging during childbirth–we rushed her to the city hospital, pulled every string we had!”
“And you have the nerve to say my grandson is yours? Have you no shame!”
My father–in–law also stepped up angrily: “If you keep talking nonsense, I’m calling the police to have you arrested!”
Sophia’s lips trembled. The slap left her face red and swollen.
She cowered, then suddenly glared at me. I raised an eyebrow, and she seemed to have a realization.
“It was you, Mia! You faked everything!”
The man beside her spoke up roughly: “Your family’s got money and power now. I heard you even opened restaurants in the New York. All that paperwork can be faked. The only thing that can prove the truth is a DNA test.”
“We’ll do a paternity test with the kid. Then everything will be clear!”
But my son didn’t want to do it.
My in–laws protected us while my parents sided with Sophia.
“Mia, just give the child back to your little sister!”
“Yeah, Sophie’s had such a hard time out there all these years. You have two kids—just let her have this one back!”
Now everyone was staring and talking among themselves.
“What’s really going on here? Did she steal someone’s kid and now doesn’t want to give him back?”
“After more than a decade of feelings, how can you just cut ties? They’re sisters–family!”
“That’s ridiculous! They said it’s their own biological child. How could they give him away!”
“Sophia, you keep saying the son is yours–got any proof? Does the kid have any birthmarks?”
“Mom, did you actually see me take that baby?”
Both of them looked stunned. I laughed coldly: “Forgot to mention–my son is only fifteen. He got into Harvard’s early admission program!”
“Your son would be about eighteen by now. The ages don’t match! You’ve got the wrong kid!”
Everyone suddenly realized.
“Yeah, William is fifteen. I went to his baby shower party!”
“Right, I remember now. William is the younger one–Mia had him in her third year of marriage!”
“Mr. Hartley, Mia didn’t even invite you guys to that celebration!”
“Right, I remember that too.”
Mom and Dad’s faces looked absolutely terrible.

Everyone laughed mockingly, saying Sophia had lost her mind!
Just then, the Harvard professor stood up:
My son calmly pulled out his ID: “I’m willing to do a DNA test with you and report this to the police. But if I’m not your son, you’ll face the consequences. Spreading rumors, slandering, and smearing my mother’s name–I’ll never forgive you!”
My daughter also stood by my side: “You’re accusing my mom with nothing but words and no evidence.”
“My mom has birth certificates and ID cards. What do you have!”
My Mom’s face went white as a sheet.
She looked at me: “You’re lying! Mia, if William really is your child, then… then what happened to Sophie’s son?”
