Chapter 18
Julius stayed in a hospital in Switzerland for another half month.
During this period, he lay in bed for a long time, and the wound on his back became infected, causing a high fever for three full days. He almost lost his life because of this.
The assistant stood anxiously on the side, with a furrowed brow, “Mr. Swanton, after all, we don’t have any acquaintances in Switzerland, and we can’t find a specialist to treat you. In my opinion, we should wait until you feel a little better and then return home…”
Julius lay weakly in bed, his whole body twisted and tortured by illness.
He stared blankly at the ceiling, finally mustering the strength to speak, “I can’t go back, Eileen is still here, I can’t go back.”
Hearing this, the assistant could only shake his head helplessly, with no other choice.
At that moment, the door of the ward was suddenly pushed open, and Eileen walked in expressionlessly.
When he saw her, Julius‘ eyes lit up.
He moved his fingers, gesturing for his assistant to help him up. “Eileen, you’re here. Are you worried about me, coming to see me specially?”
Eileen tugged at the corner of her mouth and then turned to her assistant, “You go out, I’m going to talk to Mr. Swanton.”
The assistant was taken aback, but in the end, he turned around helplessly and left the room.
Julius stared at her blankly, his eyes filled with tenderness. “Eileen, you finally agreed to see me. I am so happy.”
Eileen pursed her lips and didn’t say anything. She just took out a document from her bag and placed it in front of him. “Mr. Swanton, you didn’t sign the divorce agreement from the country. Yesterday, I had another one drafted by a lawyer. Please sign it now.”
Julius’s whole body froze in an instant.
He originally thought that Eileen came to see him on purpose because she couldn’t let go of him.
I didn’t expect that they came to force him to sign the divorce agreement.
He looked at her in pain, his face full of disbelief. “Eileen, do you really want to divorce me like this? To the extent of chasing me to the hospital?”
“Do you know that I lost my legs, sacrificed them to chase after you and your son? And now you come to me asking for a divorce, Eileen, do you think you are being fair to all the years of my sincerity towards you?”
Eileen stared at him with a sly expression.
She didn’t understand, it was clearly him who wanted to pursue them, mother and son.
It was clearly him who crashed into the truck.
He was the one who wronged her first.
Now, why can he turn the tables with such confidence again?
She stood up slowly and looked at Julius coldly, “Mr. Swanton, just sign it. I really don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.”
“Why?” Julius muttered, head bowed, “Why do you have to divorce me?”
“Is it because I have become disabled now that even you don’t find me attractive anymore?”
Eileen suddenly found it a bit funny.
After so many years, was she really just someone in Julius’s eyes who could share joy but not sorrow?
She looked up, her eyes cold and indifferent. “Since Mr. Swanton is so eager to know why I must divorce you, then I will tell you.”
With that, she found the nearest chair and sat down, setting the divorce agreement aside.
“Mr. Swanton, did you send away our biological child Gideon without my knowledge back then?”
Julius nodded reluctantly. The deed was done by him, and there was no escaping it.
“Did you just abandon Gideon at the orphanage all by himself for four years without even asking once?”
“What? An orphanage?” Julius exclaimed, looking at Eileen in disbelief. “Gideon has been living in an orphanage for the past four years? How is that possible? I sent him to Chicago, to a decent family, and even left him a large sum of money before I left. How did he end up in an orphanage?”
