Chapter 3
A crowd had gathered at the doorway to watch the drama unfold.
Hearing their conversation, they looked at me with anger and contempt.
“Oh my God, how can there be mothers like this? Getting jealous of her own daughter?”
“Didn’t you hear? Both the daughter and this witch fell in the water, the dad saved the daughter first, and now this bitch is demanding a divorce!”
Some new mothers in the crowd got so outraged they charged in and started pulling my hair and hitting me.
“You bitch! Don’t you have any maternal instincts?”
“People like you don’t deserve to live!”
Seeing the violence start, more people rushed in.
Someone even filmed the scene and uploaded it online.
Instantly, countless fists and feet rained down on me. I could hear my bones cracking.
A sharp pain shot through my scalp–someone had actually torn off a chunk of my hair.
Garrett desperately tried to stop the enraged crowd.
Paisley was crying and kowtowing on the floor, begging them to let me go.
My stunned mother–in–law finally snapped back to reality and rushed to the nurses‘ station to get medical staff.
Soon after, the situation was finally under control.
By then, I was covered in injuries and Garrett frantically rushed me to the emergency room.
After who knows how long, I finally woke up to find myself transferred to a regular hospital room.
There was commotion outside, but the room was empty.
I took out my phone to check the time, when a trending news notification caught my attention.
#Mom and daughter both fall in water, dad saves daughter first, mom files for divorce#
There was even a spin–off topic that hit number two on trending:
#If your wife and your mother both fell in the water, who would you save first?#
I calmly clicked through, seeing the comments had already reached hundreds of thousands.
All of them were insults and curses directed at me.
“You don’t deserve to be human. Go to hell.”
“Why is this type of news everywhere? Last time there was a mother who buried her daughter alive in flour because her

husband bought the kid a fried chicken. I hope this father learns from that and protects his daughter.”
“Totally agree. There was another mother who threw her daughter’s body in a river because she was jealous of her. The dad in this story better watch his kid closely.”
“She’s treating her own daughter like a rival competitor. These people are so selfish, they should be sterilized for life.”
“What’s he waiting for? Divorce this psycho before she becomes a real threat.”
“If it were me, I’d rather my daughter have no mother than have one like this. I’d stay far away from her.”
Outside my hospital room, reporters and outraged netizens had gathered.
I could hear Garrett defending me patiently.
“My wife wasn’t like this before. She used to love our daughter even more than I did. I don’t know why she’s changed like this.”
“Maybe I spoiled her too much before. She can’t handle me being nice to any other female, even though that female is our daughter.”
“Thanks for everyone’s concern. I love my wife very much. I won’t divorce her.”
I endured the pain and got out of bed, slowly opening the hospital room door.
“Garrett Thorne, stop putting on an act. I’m definitely getting this divorce.”
He turned around and pleaded with me humbly:
“Honey, I promise I’ll love you even more from now on. Please stop being mad at me, okay?”
“If you really mind Paisley, I’ll send her to stay with my mom for a while.”
But I remained unmoved.
The divorce is non–negotiable. Not only am I divorcing you, but you’re leaving with nothing.”
