Clarissa turned around and looked at the pretty, doll–faced girl in front of her. A cold smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
“Well, well, if it isn’t you.”
Chloe Gosling had been shopping with her bestie when she unexpectedly ran into Clarissa. “My brother’s in the hospital, and you’re out here shopping? Don’t you think you should be at the hospital taking care of him?”
“Yeah? Your brother’s in the hospital, and you’re out shopping with a friend?” Clarissa looked at her blandly.
“You and I are not the same. If you like my brother. you should be the one taking care of him! Besides, he ended up like that because of you- Chloe’s voice faltered. The whole elopement thing was too embarrassing to say aloud. “Anyway, just hurry up and go back to the hospital. I’ll be heading back too after I pick up a few things.”
“Chloe, who’s this? her friend asked curiously.
“Don’t mind her. Just some girl who’s into my brother.” Chloe’s tone was dripping with disdain.
Hearing that, even her friend looked at Clarissa with mild contempt.
The mall manager and sales staff didn’t look too happy. No matter what, Clarissa was still the Chandler family’s daughter- she shouldn’t have been treated like that. But if she was letting people walk all over her, what could they do?
Chloe turned to her friend, Yara Carrington. “Yara, pick anything you like from here. I’ll pay.”
Yara looked genuinely shocked. “But the stuff here is crazy expensive… Even the cheapest piece costs thousands…”
“Thousands isn’t expensive. Every time I come here, I easily spend hundreds of thousands.”
Yara’s jaw nearly dropped. Hundreds of thousands… That’s more than a regular person makes in decades… Some people won’t even earn that much in a lifetime.
“Wow, Chloe, so you really are a rich girl. Your family’s loaded! Spending hundreds of thousands on clothes like it’s nothing…” Yara said, her voice filled with envy and admiration.
Chloe loved nothing more than being praised for her wealth. She lifted her chin proudly. She was no longer that little country bumpkin–now, she was someone who had money and status.
“Alright, go try things on. Take whatever you like–don’t be shy,” she said, then barked at the sales assistants. “You three, follow her. Whatever she wants, get it for her. And if she’s even a little unhappy. I’ll fire you on the spot!”
Fire them? Who does she think she is? She’s really starting to believe she’s someone important. Clarissa clicked her tongue to the side, watching the whole scene unfold.
Chloe had grown up in the same rural village as she had. Back then, she could barely get enough to eat, and used to call her “Clare” in that shy, timid voice. But after entering Imperia, she changed completely, blinded by status and greed.
The manager and sales staff were all visibly irritated. Chloe came in here often, bossing them around like she owned the place. She’d buy mountains of things but never paid–just charged everything to the account. But because she was close to Clarissa, and Clarissa was their CEO, George Chandler’s beloved younger sister, they had no choice but to put up with her.
So, the sales team bit their tongues and continued serving Chloe and her friend.
“Does Chloe come here a lot?” Clarissa asked casually, watching as Chloe barked out more orders and had dozens of outfits pulled for her.
“Yes,” the manager replied through gritted teeth.
“And every time, she just… puts it on the tab?” Clarissa raised a brow.
“Yes.” The more the manager answered, the more frustrated she got. Honestly, she thought Clarissa must be blind to still treat someone like Chloe so well, especially when Chloe clearly looked down on her.

“Do you have the ledger?”
The manager paused for a moment, not sure what Clarissa wanted them for, but nodded anyway. “Yes, we do.”

You do, huh? Clarissa’s cold smile deepened. She helped herself to my family’s things–nothing wrong with making her cough it all back up, right?
