Gregory’s heart jumped as he quickly looked toward the door. Clarissa stormed in, flanked by a whole group of people.
“Clare?”
The tension in Gregory’s chest eased the moment he saw it was her.
The door had been kicked open so violently that he’d thought Jonathan’s men were back to finish what they started. Jonathan hadn’t gone easy on him when he’d been captured.
“Clare, did you come to see me?” Gregory softened his tone instantly. “Come, sit down. It’s cold out there–don’t catch a chill.”
Clarissa walked over without a word and sat down on the chair beside the bed, her expression unreadable.
Shawn and the others exchanged confused looks. Wait… why did this little fireball bring us here? Are we seriously just here to watch them flirt?
“Why the long face?” Gregory smiled tenderly at her. “Chloe called me earlier. That girl’s been spoiled rotten by all of us- completely out of control. She’s mouthy, sure, but she doesn’t mean any real harm. I know you just wanted to teach her a lesson, and I’m on your side. But she grew up in the countryside, never had it easy… Let’s just let it go, alright?”
“No.” Clarissa’s voice was ice cold.
Gregory’s soft smile froze for a second. He hadn’t expected her to shut him down like that. As far as he was concerned, Clarissa liked him–she was just being willful. After all, hadn’t she gone to Jonathan herself to get him released?
The thought annoyed him a little, but he still tried to coax her. “Clare, you’re Chloe’s sister–in–law. We’re all family now. Can’t you just let this one slide?”
“I’m not just holding her accountable. I’m holding you accountable, too.” Clarissa’s tone turned mocking as she stared him down. “Gregory, all these years, you’ve eaten my food, spent my money… If the cash I gave you didn’t break eight figures, it was d*mn near close. And now you’re still lying here freeloading off my brother’s hospital? You’re living in a fantasy.
“Security! Get him out of here!”
At her command, Shawn and the others stood frozen in place. It wasn’t until Clarissa shot them a cold glance that they snapped out of it. The security guards immediately stepped forward, grabbed Gregory by both arms, and dragged him right off the bed.
Gregory was completely stunned. He still hadn’t recovered from his injuries, and being yanked like that made his face go ghost white from the pain.
“Clare! What the hell is up with you?!” He stared at her in disbelief, never thinking she would actually be this heartless.
“I’m settling a score.” Clarissa sneered. “Gregory, because you once saved me, I’ll spare your life. I’m only throwing you out of the hospital. However, from now on, don’t ever show your face in front of me again. If you do, I won’t be so nice. Take him out. Starting today, he’s banned from this hospital. And whatever debt he owes–make sure he pays up. The Chandler family doesn’t hand out charity!”
“Yes, ma’am!” The security guards shouted in unison, loud and clear.
Shawn looked at Clarissa like she was a shining star. A miracle. This is a d*mn miracle! Miss Clarissa isn’t just sane today—she’s killing it! She’s actually shredding that sc*mbag to pieces! Thank goodness I didn’t turn the director down!
Gregory was dragged out of the room just like that. Other patients peeked curiously into the hallway, and once they found out he’d been squatting there without paying, the looks they gave him were full of disgust.
This is the top private hospital in all of Imperia. If you can’t pay, what are you doing here? Serves you right.
Clarissa watched coldly.
In her past life, she hadn’t actually liked Gregory. What she had hated was how her family had tried to control her life. And because Gregory had once saved her, in her rebellious desperation, she eloped with him and backed him all the way to

Yet, that boy who had once saved her with such sincerity… had become someone utterly disgusting.
