Chapter 1
Even a three–year–old pup knows one thing.
In Eastmoor, Lynette is the last she–wolf you want to mess with.
Because I’ve always had three unwavering guardians by my side.
My Alpha mate, Harvey, is the leader of the most powerful pack in Brightmoor. He’s also a renowned werewolf attorney.
Yet with all his silver tongue, he’s never won a single argument against me.
My best friend, Liam, is the Chief Inspector of the werewolf police.
He’s said it since we were kids: he wanted to become the greatest officer in the world–just so he could keep me safe.
And my brother Walter took over the Bloodmoon Pack as Alpha when he was just fifteen.
He shielded me from every attack, every scheme, both inside and outside the pack.
He spoiled me rotten, turning me into a little princess who knew nothing of the world’s darkness.
Then came my twenty–ninth birthday.
I was holding a pregnancy test with two pink lines, after Harvey and I had been going at it for twelve straight hours in the dining room.
What I got instead was Walter’s corpse–stabbed to death after trying to be a hero.
And Harvey, standing in court, getting ready to defend the murderer.
I lost it.
I screamed, I demanded answers. But Liam slapped a pair of handcuffs on me and locked me to the stairwell rail.
“Lynette, stop making a scene.”
“Walter is gone, but you still have us. You still have your Luna status.”
“But Emily–her brother is all the family she has left.”
Harvey didn’t wait for my response.
He simply handed me a settlement agreement, gesturing toward the frail she–wolf in a white dress standing beside him.
“Lynette, be good.”
“Just sign this. Let’s say the whole thing was an accident.”
“Back when the landslide hit the Mistwood Pack, Emily risked her leg to save us.”
“And now, she’s only asking us to spare the last family she has left. How could we possibly say no?”
“This is a debt we owe her. And you, being the most important person in our lives, should help us repay it.”
I could barely believe what I was hearing.
Just last night, these two were pouring their hearts into planning my birthday party.
They were blood brothers to Walter in all but name, bonded for life.
And now they were standing here, throwing around some ridiculous excuse to force me to forgive my brother’s killer?
I smacked the pen and the agreement out of Harvey’s hand and swept my icy gaze across the three of them.
“Walter was stabbed. Nineteen times. Who the hell believes that was an accident?”

“And are you really sure it was Emily who saved you back then during the landslide?”
Before I could even finish, Emily burst into tears and dropped to her knees.
“Lynette, I’m begging you! My brother is all I have left!”
“If someone has to pay for your brother’s death… then take me instead.”
“We’re Omegas. We’re not like you. Our lives mean nothing!”
Liam knelt down beside her, full of pity, and helped her to her feet. “Lynette! You’re being completely unreasonable!”
“How can you just stand there and watch an innocent girl cry and beg like this?”
Harvey’s face darkened.
“Lynette, let me be honest with you.”
“I’ve already made the calls. Even if you don’t sign, no lawyer in the entire werewolf realm will dare take your case.”
I clenched my teeth and yanked against the cuffs so hard, I felt the bones in my wrist start to crack. But I still broke free.
