Chapter 2
I slapped both men across the face, one after the other.
“Just wait and see. I will never let Walter die in vain!”
For the next three days, I ran around like a madwoman, knocking on the doors of over eight hundred law firms across the entire werewolf realm.
Every single one turned me down with the same rehearsed response.
“Luna, please, have mercy.”
“If Alpha Harvey says no, and we take your case, our firm will be shut down by tomorrow!”
I tried to use every cent of my life savings to hire the most famous attorney in the realm.
But the bank informed me that all my assets were considered joint property with Harvey. He had already filed a motion to freeze the
accounts.
Without Harvey’s signature, I couldn’t touch a dime.
The deadline for the lawyer’s retainer was fast approaching.
Once, I could get anything I wanted with just a word in the werewolf realm. Now I was reduced to throwing a tantrum at a bank counter like a lunatic, begging them to let me withdraw my own money.
The bank’s security team acted fast. In no time, they had my arms wrenched behind my back and slammed me to the floor.
“Let me go! Do you have any idea who I am?!”
I roared like a caged animal, stripped of all power, my screams the only release for my helplessness.
“All right, let her go.”
A familiar pair of leather shoes stepped into view, followed by a soft sweep of a white skirt.
I looked up and met Harvey’s composed, calculating gaze.
He had one arm around Emily, his eyes dark and unreadable as they locked onto mine.
“Lynette, are you done acting out?”
“You can accept Emily’s apology and move on, or stay the crazy one in everyone’s eyes. Your choice.”
Clutching my barely dislocated shoulder, I forced myself up from the ground.
Tears blurred my vision–not from emotion, but from pain.
Three years ago, the four of us had gone hiking when a sudden landslide hit.
Harvey and Liam were both knocked unconscious, buried under rocks and debris.
It was Walter and I who dug them out with our bare hands. We trekked for nearly four miles before we ran into Emily, a she–wolf from a
nearby pack.
Walter and I scraped together every dollar we had–a few thousand in cash and a $10,000 transfer–just to convince her to go get her Alpha and bring back their healers.
I never thought she’d take credit for what we did.
And I never expected Harvey to take that lie and use it to shove me and Walter off a cliff.
My lips curled into a bitter smile as I brushed past Harvey.

“I told you my brother will not die for nothing.”
I hadn’t gotten far when Harvey’s angry voice rose behind me, followed by Emily’s saccharine whimper.
“Harvey, don’t be mad! I’ll go talk to Luna. If I’m sincere enough, I’m sure she’ll forgive us!”
“No! You don’t need to apologize.”
“If she can’t even understand something as simple as compassion, then maybe it’s time she learned a proper lesson.”
At the time, I thought the “lesson” Harvey mentioned would be the usual–freezing my accounts, making sure no lawyer would help
- me.
What I didn’t expect was that in just one night, Harvey and Liam could switch out, destroy, or bury every piece of evidence.
