Chapter 7
I collapsed to the ground.
My bloodshot eyes had cried dry long ago.
“My whole family? There is no family left. I’m all that’s left.”
“Yes, fine. I deserve this. But let me say it clearly–my brother never hur
anyone!”
“Neither did my parents!”
The so–called victim’s family scowled at my words and quickly surrounded me, their faces twisted with fury. Slap after slap landed
across my face.
“Still got the guts to argue? God, you really don’t know what shame is, do you?”
I was knocked to the ground again, shielding the urns of my family with all I had. Through the pain, I raised my voice and yelled at the
two men watching coldly from the sidelines.
“Harvey! Liam! You two better answer me with your damn conscience!”
“That night–was it really my brother, Alpha Walter, who raped and killed someone?”
The people hitting me finally backed off.
Harvey didn’t look at me. His gaze shifted off to the side, avoiding mine entirely.
Emily stood nearby with teary eyes, lowering her head like she was the one being wronged.
Only Liam hesitated, stepping toward me and leaning down as if to help me up. I kicked him in the gut with all the strength I had left.
He groaned in pain, and then–without a second thought–he slammed me back onto the ground.
My body hit the dirt with a brutal thud. All three urns scattered. Ash spilled across the grass.
Harvey’s expression finally changed. He frowned as he pointed to the broken urns and scattered remains.
“Lynette, what the hell are you doing here today? Aside from Walter, who else is worth you personally coming out to bury?”
I struggled to sit up, my body aching from the fall, and frantically tried to gather my family’s ashes back into my coat.
“Grandpa passed away. I brought him to be with my parents.”
The moment I said the word Grandpa, Harvey visibly relaxed.
“Lynette, even lies have their limits.”
“I literally just saw the latest footage from the nursing home. Alpha Frank is perfectly fine–sleeping peacefully.”
Liam, still holding his stomach, let out a dry laugh through a cough.
“Exactly. Come on, Lynette, don’t make things even worse for yourself.
“Why don’t you stop showing up here embarrassing yourself? Once we’re done with everything, we’ll definitely come back to
you.”
Their casual, detached tone made my hands freeze mid–motion.
Looking at the two of them, I realized I had no more energy left to explain anything.
I simply gathered what I could of the ashes, packed them back into the broken urns, and stood up.
“If you don’t believe me, then forget it.”
“You want this cemetery? Keep it. But don’t you dare touch my parents‘ ashes again.”

With that, I wrapped the urns tightly in my coat and turned to leave, not sparing them another glance.
“Hey! Lynette! That’s a lot to carry–can you manage all that by yourself?”
Harvey called out instinctively, but I didn’t stop. Not once.
Harvey looked away, an inexplicable panic rising in his chest.
I used to cling to him for everything.
But now, even after everything I’d suffered–I didn’t even bother to yell at him anymore.
