I admit, I was a bit shocked when Noah showed up again

It had been six months since we last met, and he looked like a completely different personthin, pale, and almost like a ghost

The moment he saw me, he ran over, grabbed my hand, and spoke with so much emotion, Adeline, you’re alive! That’s great

What happened before was my fault. I was too focused on my reputation, and I didn’t handle things right…

But I’ve already taken care of Chloe. No one will ever hurt you again

Please come back with me. Let’s start over, okay?”

How could we start over

There are lives lost between uslives of people I deeply loved and can never get back

I pulled my hand away and told him to stop looking for me

Still, Noah keeps showing up

Sometimes he sends flowers. Other times, it’s luxury gifts like jewelry

I tossed all of his gifts straight into the garbage

But when he started seriously disturbing my daily life, I had no other option but to apply for a position with Doctors Without Borders

This had always been my dream, though I had to put it off because of my mother’s serious illness

Now, things have finally gotten back on track

Every day, I work under the sound of gunshots, pulling patients back from the edge of death. It’s exhausting, but it makes me feel more alive than

ever

What I didn’t expect was to run into Noah once more

One day, right after I stepped out of surgery, a teaminate came up and told me that a man outside was asking to meet me

[ [ washed my hands and stepped outside, only to spot Noah standing there

My expression instantly turned cold. What are you doing here?I asked

Usually confident in business, Noah now looked uneasy, nervously wringing his hands and apologizing to me

He said, Adeline, you left without a word. I’ve been really worried

I finally found you. Please don’t push me away. I promise I won’t bother you again.”

I didn’t bother responding to him. Right at that moment, a new patient was brought in, and I hurried to the operating room

For the next several days, I barely took a break. I was so busy that I barely had time to take a sip of water

Just like he promised, Noah didn’t come to disturb me again

Instead, he stayed around the area, quietly helping out wherever he could

About a month later, while I was performing surgery, I looked up and was surprised to see that he was assisting me

When he noticed me staring, he quickly spoke up, Your assistant is sick

I’ve been helping out here the past few days. Don’t worry, I can do it well

I won’t say anything unnecessary during the surgery, so I won’t distract you.”

In the end, I allowed him to stay and assist

Just like he said he would, he helped me with the entire surgery without saying anything

He didn’t speak until we were finished and the patient was safe. Then, Noah came over to me, looking unsure

He said, Adeline, I need to talk to you about something

I turned him down. Please address me as Dr. Devlin

And I have nothing to discuss with you.”

Noah was about to speak when suddenly, a plane carrying bombs swooped low, heading straight for us

Without thinking, Noah pulled me close and shielded me with his own body

The blast went off nearby, and his blood splattered everywhere

He looked at me and said softly, Adeline, I’m really sorry.”

Then his arms dropped to his sides, completely limp

I kept calling his name, doing my best to stop the bleeding, but he didn’t

answer me

His body grew colder in my arms, and the world around me went completely still

After the bombing stopped, my teammates carried him away along with the injured and those who had died

The fierce fire eventually died down, and the tall figure of Noah had turned into a small pile of ashes

I found a container and carefully gathered his ashes

Six months passed, and the war finally came to an end

I personally escorted Noah’s coffin back to the country

Sarah cried uncontrollably, just like she had when she first saw me and her two grandsons with no vital signs

I opened my mouth, wanting to say something, but she reached out, held my hand tightly, and spoke first, Adeline, it’s our family who has failed you. As for Noahhe brought this upon himself

I just hope you can forgive him, so he can rest in peace

Forgive him? I couldn’t bring myself to say it

There was just too much between Noah and metoo many walls, too many wounds

The rain fell gently, just like the day I saw him for the first time

I placed a bouquet of roses on his grave

At that moment, every bit of love and hate that I had seemed to fade away
