next morning, Gerard showed up again.
This time, he was dragging a huge suitcase behind him.
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked, frowning.
Without a word, Gerard marched inside like he owned the place.
“Leonie, this is my home. I’m just coming back to where I belong.”
Thomas came out of the kitchen carrying breakfast, his face darkening the second he saw Gerard.
Gerard glared at him and said with a sharp sneer, “Thomas, get the hell out. This is my house now.”
Thomas calmly set the tray down, took off his apron, brushed off his sleeves, and turned to me. “Leonie,” he said evenly, “are you coming with me?”
“Absolutely,” I replied without hesitation.
Gerard lunged forward and grabbed my hand. His voice was low and tight, like he was hanging on by a thread. “Leonie, you can’t go with him! I’m your husband! We’ve been through everything together since we were just kids! How can you run off with someone else like it’s nothing?”
I shook him off, annoyed. “I don’t care what you say. I lost my memory, remember? And the only person who’s stood by me is him. Everyone says he’s my husband, so guess what? I believe them.”
“Leonie!” Gerard growled, jaw clenched. “One day you’ll remember everything, and when you do, you’ll regret this. I swear you will.”
I gave a cold laugh. “Doubt it.”
He already threw everything away the moment he cheated.
There was nothing left to regret.
I walked out with Thomas, never looking back.
Gerard just stood there, like a statue in the middle of the living room, watching us disappear down the hallway. His face was a mess–lost, angry, broken.
Suddenly, his eyes drifted to the photo frame on the table.
It was a picture Thomas had taken during one of our intimate moments.
I remembered him saying, “If you forget everything again, maybe this photo will help you remember me.”

In the photo, I was curled up in his arms, cheeks flushed and eyes hazy.

Gerard’s eyes were red as he stared at the photo. Suddenly, he grabbed a stool nearby and smashed it to pieces, roar- ing like a madman.
“Thomas, you scum! I must’ve been out of my mind to ever call
He then stormed out and stumbled to the nearest bar.
He ordered their strongest liquor and downed them one by one.
you my friend!”
His stomach twisted in protest from the alcohol, but he did not stop or even flinch.
Funny thing was, the more he drank, the clearer things got.
And the more regret came crashing down on him like a tidal wave.
He had clearly chosen to go back to his family, so why did everything not seem to go the way he wanted?
After a few drinks, Claudia walked over.
“Gerard, stop drinking!” she said, grabbing his glass with a frown. “If something’s bothering you, talk to me. Why do you have to drown your feelings in alcohol?”
Gerard looked up at the woman next to him.
She was the reason he left his wife.
Thinking about everything he had done over the last three years, Gerard suddenly felt like a complete fool.
He had thrown away his marriage just for a moment of pleasure.
He used to think he would never forget his first love.
Now, he finally realized that the one person he truly could not let go of was his wife.
After a long silence, Gerard spoke in a rough voice.
“Claudia, let’s break up. Abort the child, too.”
Claudia’s eyes widened in shock. “Gerard, what are you saying?!”
Gerard gave a cold smile. ” Claudia, Leonie is my wife. You? You’re just the other woman. What makes you think you deserve to have my child?”
Claudia looked at him like she could not believe what she was hearing. “But that’s not what you said before. You told me you still loved me. You said you couldn’t leave me. It was you who asked me to keep this baby!”
“I know what I said, but I regret it!” Gerard suddenly lost control, slamming his glass down hard. “I regret it so badly, okay? When I saw Leonie in bed with another man, it felt like my heart was being ripped apart. I can’t get over her. I’m going crazy just wanting her back!”

“Then what about me?” Claudia burst into tears. “Gerard, you can’t treat me like this!”
“Let’s go!” Gerard grabbed her arm. “I’m taking you to end this pregnancy!”
“No! I’m not going!”
Claudia fought hard, but Gerard forced her into the car.

He did not take her to a hospital. Instead, he brought out some strong abortion pills. When she refused, he forced her mouth open and made her swallow them.
Not long after, bright red blood started flowing down Claudia’s legs.
“Gerard, please save our baby…”
Gerard looked away coldly and said, ” Claudia, us being together was a mistake. I was out of my mind. I need to fix this and go back to the way things were.”
Claudia’s face twisted in pain and hatred. “Gerard, I hate you! You’ll pay for this!”
