Chloe reacted violently to my words. She frantically looked around, as if searching for
someone. “Leo! Leo, where are you?! She’s crazy! Don’t believe her!”
But her hysterical behavior only confirmed that *she* was the liar! Everyone gasped,
trying to make sense of my words.
“Is this a TV show? What’s this about life–swapping?”
“I heard Chloe Sterling was a nobody when she started university, then suddenly changed
in her sophomore year, becoming the school’s star.”
“She’s probably just saying this to drag Chloe Sterling down.”

I smiled faintly, motioning for everyone to listen. “I’m sure you all know I lost four cases to Chloe, an intern. I’ve always wondered why Chloe could produce identical rebuttals to my evidence.”
“It wasn’t until I hired a detective to investigate that I found out Chloe’s mother is a Voodoo practitioner from a hidden lineage. During her university years, she performed a life–swap with a classmate, who is still hospitalized to this day. And after graduation, her target was me!”
Chloe trembled, trying to cover my mouth. “That’s not true!”
But I pulled away, grabbing her wrist, and made a small cut on both our wrists simultaneously. From my body, a small voodoo worm crawled out. It moved towards Chloe’s wrist, and then, from her wrist, a large, glowing red voodoo worm emerged. It swallowed my smaller worm whole, then lazily crawled back into Chloe’s body.
The crowd was stunned into silence by the sight.
After the detective told me the truth, I asked him to find another practitioner of dark magic to consult on how to break the spell. The practitioner told me that I had been cursed with a voodoo worm, but it couldn’t be forcibly removed, as it would damage my heart. The only way was to cut both our wrists simultaneously, allowing the master worm to consume the child worm.
“After she planted the voodoo worm in me, all my good fortune was transferred to her.
She planned to drain me until I died, then completely take over my life!”
Leo, as if waking from a trance, rushed towards me. Chloe swayed, falling into his arms,
but Leo immediately pushed her away. Seeing no one to rely on, Chloe tried to push through
the crowd. But the police arrived first and handcuffed her.
“Ms. Sterling, you are suspected of accepting bribes. Please come with us to the precinct for questioning!”
Chloe was led away, utterly distraught. And I, finally, felt the immense pressure lift from
above my head.
Back home, Leo tried to reconcile with me, claiming Chloe had put a spell on him. But I
rejected him again.
After Chloe was imprisoned, I heard her mother had visited her. Due to the broken spell, she looked like a withered husk, there to see Chloe one last time. The day after her mother died, Chloe’s appearance drastically changed. Her hair turned white, her body covered in wrinkles. Conversely, the classmate, Sarah, who had been lying in the hospital for years, finally woke up. Sarah’s family demanded to see Chloe. They publicly beat her inside the prison. Chloe saw her own hideous reflection in the glass door, and back in her cell, she
took her own life.
I submitted my resignation to Mr. Harrison’s firm again. I didn’t need to stay with a company that had kicked me when I was down. Coincidentally, an even larger law firm had invited me to join them. Mr. Harrison begged me to stay, but my mind was made up. “We’ve worked together for years, yet you kicked me when I was down. Let’s part ways here.”
After my parents returned, we had a grand dinner together. My mind and body finally felt
completely at ease. “You didn’t even tell us about such a big thing, you disobedient child!”
I playfully pouted. “I’m not a child anymore, I can handle it!”
After joining the new firm, I continued to uphold the principle that a lawyer must be dedicated, treating every case and client with utmost care and diligence. After ten consecutive wins, I reclaimed my glory as the chief litigator.
