chapter230
Though Bianca had braced herself against him, he effortlessly yanked her back.
Ashley’s curious gaze followed, her smile vanishing the instant she recognized Bianca’s face.
Having Such a Good Sister
Ashley still remembered that day at the intersection when she and Elvin were rushing to a dinner.
A man had gotten into a car right at the traffic lights, and some argument seemed to break out inside the vehicle just wouldn’t move.
When the light turned green, Elvin should’ve driven off. But he didn’t. He got out.
chased the man away.
Afterward, he seemed to say something to the driver.
Ashley sat in the passenger seat. She couldn’t hear their words clearly, but when Elvin got back in, his eyes were red.
Curious, she glanced over at the other car’s driver,
It was a woman–pretty, but not some stunning beauty.
Back then, Ashley thought Elvin’s red eyes came from getting punched by that troublemaker.
But that night, he’d pulled a tissue from the box by her leg to wipe his
eyes.

Now, seeing Bianca’s face, it‘ finally dawned on Ashley: maybe Elvin hadn’t been hurt that night. Maybe he’d actually cried.
Knowing Elvin all these years, Ashley had never seen him get teary- eyed over anyone.
If her guess was right, this woman was the first.
Just imagine how much she meant to him.
The thought made Ashley feel a subtle tightness in her chest.
Elvin might have a playboy reputation, but she’d grown up with him. She knew he wasn’t truly unfaithful.
And she, Ashley, had been the only woman by his side all these years- just a friend, nothing more.
That special bond made her hope she might stand beside him someday.
But now, there was another woman.
After pulling Bianca back, Elvin stretched his long leg across her path, blocking any escape.
His voice held a hint of annoyance as he demanded, “What?
Do I look like a monster?
Running off like that!”
Bianca ignored his question, turning instead to face Ashley.
Ever since being dragged back, she’d felt Ashley’s gaze fixed on her.
So she spoke first: “Hello.”

Ashley paused before replying, “Hello. I’m Ashley Lee.”
Her smile didn’t reach her eyes, seeming almost practiced.
Bianca’s lips curved slightly. “Bianca Watts.”
Ashley kept watching her–intently, almost coldly, with probing, assessing eyes…
Elvin’s arm draped over the back of Bianca’s seat, his leg still barring her way.
He glanced back at Ashley, but before he could speak, she asked, “Elvin, shall we go toast Dad together?”
Jacob was Ashley’s father.
Without hesitation, Elvin refused. “No. I’ll take my sweetheart to toast Uncle Lee later.”
Disappointment flashed across Ashley’s face, but she kept smiling.
“Oh.”
Elvin had always known how Ashley felt. He’d made his rejection clear before.
But seeing her like this, he couldn’t help reminding her again: “Ashley, at work you’re my secretary, but outside work, you’re the Lee family heiress. Stay away from me when it’s unnecessary, or my baby might get the wrong idea about us.”
Ashley was the Lee family heiress who didn’t need to work, but she’d willingly lowered herself to become his secretary for Elvin’s sake.
She’d been doing it for years.

Last time at an event when someone asked about her, Elvin deliberately called her “the woman closest to me every day.”
Though suggestive, it was true.
As his secretary, Ashley inevitably had constant contact with him.
Even Bianca found Elvin’s harsh words cruel, let alone Ashley who’d been pampered since childhood.
Hearing this, Ashley’s eyes reddened instantly. Tears of humiliation fell as she hissed at Elvin: “Elvin, you bastard.”
