chapter260
Blair turned away, avoiding Bianca’s resentful gaze. He said flatly, “I’m just stating facts. Where Winnie caught the flu isn’t something you decide with one sentence. Since this is how things turned out, why obsess over the process?”
Bianca pressed a hand to her chest, feeling stabbing pain there. After two sharp breaths, she steadied herself.
She looked at Blair and asked calmly, “You always say I’m unfit to be a mom. Well, Blair,
are you fit to be a dad?”
Hearing this, Blair turned to stare at her. “What are you implying?”
Bianca just sneered, “I’ll say nothing. Blair, think hard. If you only want this one child, you’d better grow a conscience.”
Before Blair could respond, the hospital room door opened.
A nurse pushed a cart out, sweating. She told Bianca and Blair, “IV’s in, fluids running. Parents stay here. I’ll check her temp soon.”
Hearing this, Bianca rasped, “Thanks.”
She pushed the door open and entered,
Blair followed right behind.
Winnie lay facedown on the pillow, her tear–streaked face swollen like peaches. Though not crying now, her body still shook with sobs.

Bianca sat by the bed, smoothing Winnie’s sweat–damp hair while asking, “Feeling better?”
At Bianca’s voice, Winnie blinked, fresh tears spilling out.
But she didn’t call out, just wept silently.
Bianca ignored this, lifting Winnie’s chubby hand instead.
Two needle marks swelled red on her hand, blood still oozing from the punctures.
When Blair saw this, sharp pain stabbed his chest.
Kids‘ veins are tricky, but Winnie’s five. It shouldn’t look this bad. –
Just then, the nurse reentered holding a thermometer gun.
Seeing her, Blair’s anger ignited: “How’d you insert that needle?
Using my child for practice?”
The nurse flushed crimson at Blair’s questioning: “Sir, I’m new here. I’m not skilled enough yet, but the child wouldn’t cooperate either, I—”
Blair had no interest in explanations. He cast a casual glance over her, his tone detached: “Don’t come back tomorrow.”
The nurse’s flushed face instantly paled.
Though unfamiliar with Blair, his attire and demeanor terrified the newly graduated nurse into tears.
Hearing her sob, Blair felt inexplicable irritation. Before he could react, Bianca snapped: “Blair, take your tantrum elsewhere. This is a hospital, not your place to throw your weight around.”

As medical staff, Bianca understood the nurse’s struggle.
Winnie’s veins tvere thin and fragile, compounded by her uncooperativeness–multiple attempts were normal.
Blair’s protectiveness was understandable, but it didn’t justify berating the nurse.
Besides, Winnie needed rest now.
Bianca’s outburst unexpectedly calmed Blair into silence.
Seeing Bianca’s effectiveness, the nurse proceeded to check Winnie’s temperature.
The reading still showed over 39 degrees.
Seeing this reading, Bianca and Blair were both very anxious.
The nurse had no choice but to say, “I’ll go ask the doctor to see if we need to do anything.”
Bianca didn’t say anything, just let the nurse go ask.
Blair sat down beside Bianca, looking worriedly at Winnie.
Before long, the nurse came back and said to wait a bit longer to see if
the fever would go down.
Bianca was a doctor too, so she knew reducing a fever wasn’t something fixed in minutes.
So she thought to herself they’d see how it goes later.
Winnie’s mental state was okay, so no need to rush treatment.

Blair’s heart ached for his daughter, and he kept stroking her cheek.
Winnie’s cheeks were pale, but she still smiled at Blair and said, “Daddy, Winnie’s okay.”
Hearing this, Bianca felt a sting in her nose, and tears rolled down in big drops.
Seeing her like this, Blair whispered, “Winnie’s not in serious danger, don’t be like this.”
