She smiled in acknowledgment.
Mrs. Leach entered the pavilion, standing beside Bianca. “Mrs. Avery, Mr. Blair just went to see you. Didn’t you meet?”
ent to see you.
Bianca shook her head, confused. “No.”
As Mrs. Leach hesitated, Bianca cut in: “How’s Winnie?
Is she alright?”
“Mrs. Avery, the little miss has moved to a regular room. She’s fine now–bouncing around already.”
Bianca finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Good.”
Recognizing Mrs. Leach’s unspoken words, Bianca preempted her: “Mrs. Leach, please carry on with your duties, Jenna and I will stroll around.”
She took Jenna’s hand and left the pavilion.
Mrs. Leach swallowed her words and called Blair instead.
The hospital garden was vast. Though early winter, osmanthus fragrance lingered.
After walking awhile, Jenna nudged Bianca, nodding toward their rear.
Turning, Bianca saw Blair approaching through the mist.

His black overcoat billowed open, damp hair glistening as he emerged from the haze.
Spotting him, Bianca instinctively turned to leave.
But Blair was quicker. “Miss Jenna,” he called firmly, “I need a private word with my wife. Please excuse us.
Jenna ignored him, watching Bianca.
She’d leave instantly if Bianca refused
Yet Bianca patted Jenna’s hand. “Go wander for a bit,” she whispered. Though worried, Jenna left after Bianca’s reassuring smile.
Seeing Bianca’s thin fuzzy pajamas, Blair frowned deeply. “Why come out in this cold?”
Bianca slowly faced him. Tilting her head up, she watched him shrug off his coat and wrap it around her from behind.
As the coat descended, she instinctively dodged. “Blair, don’t need to do this. I don’t need you like this.”
His height easily trapped her against his frame–no escape possible.
With slight pressure, he secured the coat over her shoulders.
After draping the coat over Bianca, he pressed his palm against her shoulder to prevent her from removing it, leaning in to murmur, “Keep it on. We need to talk.”
The oversized coat enveloped Bianca’s frame completely,
making her resemble a child swallowed by an adult’s garment.

She deliberately ignored his words, tilting her chin toward the park entrance. “The air’s fresher out here. Winnie’s been cooped up indoors. since her fever broke. You should bring her out more often.”
Only when Bianca stopped resisting did Blair slowly withdraw his hand from her shoulder.
“Alright,” he replied simply.
Bianca met his gaze directly. “What did you want to discuss?”
Blair’s eyes traced the lines of her face. “Are you feeling better now?” “Get to the point,” she snapped, impatience sharpening her tone.
He hesitated before offering, “I spoke too harshly that day. Please don’t dwell on it.”
Bianca couldn’t recall–nor cared to–which incident he referenced.
Shrugging with deliberate nonchalance, she said, “Oh, it’s fine. I’m used to it by now.”
Her dismissiveness tightened Blair’s chest. “I didn’t know you were running a fever that day, otherwise I-”
“I get it,” Bianca cut him off mid–sentence.
Her indifference pierced him. “Move into Winnie’s hospital room,” he urged abruptly. “It’d be easier to care for you both.”
The suggestion caught Bianca off–guard. After a brief pause, her refusal came crisp and final: “Thanks, but no.”
Before Blair could respond, she continued, her voice glacial, “Blair, we’re due at City Hall in less than twenty days to finalize the divorce.”
Her words hung between them–both reminder and warning.

“Understood,” Blair acknowledged, watching her detachment solidify.
A thin smile touched Bianca’s lips as she slipped off the coat. “If that’s all, I’ll be going.”
She extended the garment toward him.
He made no move to take it. “Winter’s setting in. Keep it–you might catch cold again.”
