chapter296
Berry was invited to stay for dinner. He didn’t refuse and accepted.
During the meal, Laurence kept Berry engaged in conversation.
At first, Laurence asked perfectly normal questions.
But once the two men really started talking, Laurence inquired about Berry’s family background.
“Are you an only child?”
Berry replied: “Yes.”
“Are both your parents alive?”
“They are, though they’re both working class.”
“How old are they?”
“Uncle Laurence, my father is nearly sixty, my mother fifty–six.”
Laurence drew out his tone. “Oh… I see.”
Though Laurence was the only one asking questions, both Elroy and Margie were clearly paying attention to Berry’s answers.
When the questioning seemed sufficient, Laurence stopped, though his expression suggested he was quite satisfied with Berry’s circumstances.
Berry wasn’t foolish; he could sense the Watts family approved of him. Halfway through the meal, he proactively stood up to propose a toast.

After toasting everyone individually, he finally turned to Bianca. “Bianca, wishing you a bright future, smooth sailing in all things, and love…”
Berry had intended to add “a fulfilling love life,” but the words. remained unspoken.
After dinner, Berry stayed chatting with the Watts family for a while.
Seeing how late it was getting, Berry felt it might be inappropriate to linger further.
So he stood up and bid farewell to everyone individually.
After Berry finished his goodbyes, Elroy suddenly instructed Bianca: “Bianca, see Mr. Schwartz out.”
Though Bianca understood the implication behind Elroy’s words, she could only comply. “Okay.”
As they walked towards the exit of the Watts estate, neither spoke a single word the entire way.
Only when they reached the main gate did Berry finally turn to Bianca. “Are you alright?”
Bianca’s eyes held a flicker of uncertainty, but she nodded. “Mm, I’m fine.”
Berry’s gaze was deep and thoughtful. He opened his mouth several times but stopped himself.
He reasoned that since Bianca wasn’t divorced yet, it wasn’t appropriate to say anything else. It would only add to her troubles.
So he decided to wait until after her divorce.

Berry had been drinking, so he could only take a taxi. Coincidentally, one stopped right in front of him. Berry was reluctant to leave, so he turned back to look at Bianca and said, “Then I’ll head back.”
Bianca nodded and said, “Okay.”
Berry opened the rear door of the taxi. Just as he was about to duck in, he suddenly straightened up and looked back at Bianca, saying, “Bianca, actually I…”
Some words were too hard to keep bottled up inside, but in the end, heaven didn’t give him this chance to explain clearly.
Berry had only said half of it when his voice was drowned out by a louder one: “Bianca, Grandpa has passed away at Harmony Residence. He asked me to pick you up for dinner.”
Behind the taxi, Blair’s eye–catching Rolls–Royce came to a stop.
The driver’s side window rolled down, revealing Blair’s deep and chiseled face.
Light and shadow tangled on his face. He just leaned there, his aura overpowering everything.
Hearing Blair say the patriarch had gone to Harmony Residence, Bianca felt an involuntary chill.
After a brief hesitation, she replied resignedly, “I see.”
With that, she looked up at Berry standing by the taxi and said, “Berry, head back first. I’ll treat you to dinner next time.”
Berry’s lips curved into a faint smile that didn’t reach his eyes as he nodded, “Alright, I’ll wait.”

Bianca gave him a gentle smile before getting into Blair’s car.
It was already past eight in the evening when they returned to Harmony Residence.
