No matter how deep Sebastian dug, all the evidence pointed to one thing: I had taken my own life.
No one else was to blame.
But then, his executive assistant burst into his office, breathless.
“Mr. Blackwell! I found the proof! Miss Aurora was framed–she didn’t lose the baby by accident.”
He handed over a flash drive.
“That night… it was Miss Vivienne. She ordered her bodyguards to beat Miss Aurora. Said she wanted to make sure she’d never be able to carry a child again.”
Sebastian’s hands trembled as he clicked play.
Even though the original security footage had been destroyed, the team had managed to recover a
backup.
Vivienne’s voice rang out crystal clear: “She doesn’t know her place. Teach her a lesson. Make sure she never dreams of climbing again.”
Sebastian watched the footage over and over. His vision blurred, and blood welled up in his throat.
He had hesitated. He had believed Vivienne. He had let Aurora suffer.
His voice was hoarse with rage. “Spread the word to every outlet in Brimhill. Anyone who dares
support Vivienne Wynn or her father again… I’ll bankrupt them. They’ll never set foot in this city.”
That afternoon, Brimhill erupted.
The cold, ruthless Mr. Blackwell–finally admitting he’d been wrecked by love.
And Vivienne Wynn, once the darling of the elite, now reduced to a rat in the gutter.
But none of it reached me.
After leaving with Mason, I spent the next year immersed in programming. What began as a survival skill turned into a career.
Eventually, Mason stopped running. He signed on with a foreign cybersecurity firm. We joined as a married team and built something stable, something safe.
I taught classes, helped girls who’d been hurt like I was. I gave them hope.

One afternoon, a colleague teased me, “Why Mason? He barely talks. A woman like you must have tons of options.”
“He looks like the silent type, but I bet he’s boring in bed. What do you even see in him?”
The room turned icy. I turned around to see Mason standing in the doorway.
Everyone scattered.
I just smiled, took his hand, and whispered, “Let’s go home.”
But his expression was unusually grim.
“Aurora… I have bad news.”
His voice was low. He looked like he hated himself.
“He found out. Sebastian knows you’re alive. It won’t be long before he comes.”
I was silent for a long time.
Then I took his hand. “Then I won’t run. I’ll protect you. I’ll protect what we built.”
Mason’s eyes turned red. “I thought… I thought you’d go back to him.”
“I didn’t tell you, but he never stopped searching. He refused to believe you were dead.”
“I was scared. I was scared if you found out, you’d choose him.”
I threw my arms around him. Tears spilled down my cheeks.
“You dummy. You know I didn’t mean that.”
I cupped his face and kissed him deep, hard.
“Mason Thornwell, ever since the day you pulled me out of hell, I’ve been yours. You’re stuck with
me.”
He groaned as I tugged him closer, our bodies pressed tight.
In one swift motion, he lifted me onto the table and crushed his mouth to mine.
Pens clattered to the floor. Our moans filled the room.
