Chapter 52
Charlotte looked listless, only wanting to go upstairs and sleep. “Mom, I don’t have an appetite. You and Dad don’t need to worry about me.”
“Did you already eat outside?”
“Yeah, you two go ahead. I’m going upstairs to lie down.”
With that, she quickened her pace and slipped back to her room.
The matter of her pregnancy.
She absolutely couldn’t let her parents find out.
If they knew she was pregnant out of wedlock, they’d probably be furious and feel she had disgraced the Lindsey family.
Gordon and Kathy exchanged glances. “What’s up with Lottie lately? She’s acting so strange.”
“I don’t know. She doesn’t tell us anything anymore. I can’t figure out what she’s thinking–she’s all over the place.‘
“I’ll go upstairs and ask her later, see if something’s wrong.”
Kathy nodded. “Alright, I’ll go ask her in a bit.”
After dinner, Kathy.
Went straight to Charlotte’s room.

“Lottie, are you asleep?”
Charlotte had just finished her shower and was lying in bed, ready to sleep. “I’m about to sleep.”
“Open the door, Mom has something to talk to you about.”
“Whatever it is, let’s talk tomorrow!”
Kathy knocked on the door a few more times. “Hurry up and open the door. It’s still early, why are you sleeping now? You usually don’t go to bed until after ten!”
Charlotte had no choice but to get out of bed and open the door.
“Mom, what is it exactly?”
Kathy looked at her with concern and seriousness, sizing her up from head to toe.
Seeing her listless expression and her lips looking chapped, as if they’d been bitten.
And on her neck, there were faint bruises.
Charlotte instinctively tightened her robe. “Mom, why are you looking at me like that?”
Kathy looked very serious. “Lottie, you didn’t come home all night last night. What exactly were you doing?”
“…N–nothing!” Charlotte couldn’t help but look guilty.
After all, Gregory was from the same generation as her parents.
She had called him ‘Uncle‘ since she was a child.

Kathy looked her up and down again, worried she had gone astray. “Lottie, if you’re dating someone, Mom doesn’t object. But you have to tell me–who are you dating?”
“…I’m not!”
“You’re not? Then what were you doing all night yesterday?” Her parents‘ gazes grew even more severe!
Thinking back to not long ago.
She had seen Jocelynn at the hotel, dressed in a bizarre nightgown and looking all dolled up, clearly messing around with some shady street punks.
So, she was very worried her daughter would secretly find herself a ‘blond–haired bad boy.‘
Or even worse, an unemployed drifter.
“Really, I’m not. You’re overthinking it, I just…” Charlotte wanted to make excuses, but didn’t know what to say.
“Give me your phone!”
“Why?”
Kathy looked very serious. “I want to see who you’ve been in contact with lately.”
“Mom, that’s an invasion of my privacy. You can’t do that.”
“Lottie, Mom is just worried you’ll be deceived or get mixed up with

some street punks. Remember how your drama with Timothy was the talk of the town? Wasn’t that embarrassing enough?”
“Next time you date, you can’t be so lovesick. You have to find someone who matches our family status.”
Charlotte pushed her mother’s shoulders, steering her toward the door. “Don’t worry, Mom. Next time I get a boyfriend, I’ll definitely tell you.”
“No, you have to tell me who you’ve been seeing lately!”
Charlotte, helpless, tried to act cute. “Mom, I’m already grown up. I. know what I’m doing.”
“If you really knew, then I could rest easy.”
“Alright, alright, go to bed early! Good night, dear Mom.” Charlotte the door and quickly closed it behind her.
