Chapter 7

One week later, at the villa entrance

Jennifer had just returned from the hospital and was heading to the kitchen for food

Then a familiar voice sounded behind her-

Auntie, the training camp was so fun! Uncle and Mommy played with me every day. When Mommy sprained her ankle, Uncle carried me on his back to finish the race

Even though we won first place, Uncle still looked unhappy. He immediately carried Mommy to the hospital.”

Seems Mommy matters most to Uncle.”

Edward trailed behind Jennifer, rambling on

Jennifer’s chest tightened, words failing her

This boasting felt irrelevant now. She was leaving anyway, no longer caring who Alexander grew close to or flirted with

After all, he’d never loved her

Jennifer turned toward her room

Then blinding pain exploded at the back of her skull

Warm blood trickled down instantly

She touched the spot and spun arounddirectly meeting Edward’s

”

innocent gaze

A shattered vase lay on the floor. As she turned, he stuck out his tongue. That’s for hogging my dad

Consider this your lesson!”

Mrs. Martinez entered and froze at the sight

What happened?”

Bang

The door flew open. Edward instantly dropped his eyes, sobbing

What’s going on?”

Alexander’s low voice reached Jennifer as Nicole followed him in, stunned by the scene

Uncle Alexander, Auntie just got home

I was sharing camp stories when she suddenly got mad and threw the vase

at me”

Edward whimpered, running to him while showing a bleeding arm wound -likely from vase shards

Jennifer blinked in confusion, unsure when he’d gotten bruised

I didn-

Smack

Nicole’s palm cracked across Jennifer’s face

Chapter

You vicious woman! Harm my son again, and I’ll end you.”

Ignoring the screams, Jennifer cradled her stinging check and stumbled upstairs

Blood soaked her clothes, the sticky feeling nauseating. Alexander hadn’t even noticed

Halfway up, she turned back, laughing bitterly

Alexanderdid you ever trust me? Even a little?”

Tears welled in her eyes

His pupils contracted, the air freezing

But he only stated coldly, There was never affection between us. You hurt a child before my eyes and expect trust?”

Jennifer laughed harder, each chuckle piercing her heart as tears fell

Right. He’d never loved her. Not then, not now

She’d foolishly clung to him for years, never earning a single genuine glance

She should’ve known

Enough, Alexander.”

Nicole stepped forward and linked her arm through Alexander’s. Edward must be startled too. Let’s take him to his room first.”

Alexander merely glanced at Jennifer before finally turning away. He lifted the child and guided Nicole out

Chapter

Jennifer watched their retreating figures, her gaze lowering

She hated how poorly she’d judged people in her last life

But thankfully, not this time
