I pursed my lips.
Jaxson knew my relationship with the Suttons wasn’t good.
One year, at Grandma Hamilton’s birthday, my parents came.
My father drank too much and said awful things.
I still remember the Hamilton family’s faces.
I tried to intervene, but he pushed me.
I fell, breaking a glass, cutting my hand.
I didn’t blame him; he was drunk.
But I resented Jaxson, who stood by and watched coldly.

It sounded like a husband instructing his wife.
He seemed to think I, as his wife, shouldn’t have been treated unfairly.
But he had no idea.
My grievances were all because of him.

I blinked, confused.
Had he come back early because of that phone call?
Suppressing the strange feeling, I remained silent for a few seconds.
“Charlie is detained at the police station. I want you to find a legal team for him.” I knew he wouldn’t easily help, so I didn’t ask him to get him released, only for legal representation. My request wasn’t unreasonable.
He looked at me “Can I help?”
“Yes,” I added quickly, worried he’d hesitate. “You help me this one last time. I agree to any conditions, including divorce.”
His eyes flickered imperceptibly.
He was about to speak when his phone rang.
