Chapter1
I had always been Alpha Corvin’s nameless Luna.
They never called me Selena. I was just “that woman“, the outsider, the one who never received the Alpha’s mark, his partner only in
name.
No one knew my bloodline was the purest among them all.
I was born of the Ironfang Pack, heir to a true Alpha legacy.
Years ago, I gave up everything to follow my mate here.
Now, seven years later, I was ready to leave.
In five days, on the night of the full moon, a passage would briefly open at the border of the neutral packs.
It was my only chance.
I had already reached out to my people for help. If I could make it out of this rotten land in five days, I could start over.
I carved the first tally into the beam above my bed.
Staring at it, I drifted into thought.
My son was already asleep behind me.
Then, a knock at the door. Corvin was back.

When I opened it, the familiar Alpha scent hit me, mixed with the cloying sweetness of heat–vines and the lingering musk of a mated
she–wolf.
That scent belonged to his stepmother, Lilith. The entire pack was forcing them together, convinced only she could birth the “hope of the wolves.”
I swallowed my revulsion and stepped aside.
Corvin acted as if nothing had happened, carelessly shrugging off his cloak before slipping his arms around me from behind.
“Did you remember to eat?”
“Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon,” he said. “Once she’s pregnant, I’ll marry you.”
I tilted my head up, my eyes cold. “That’s ninety–nine times now, isn’t it?”
་་
He froze, silent for a long moment. “…She just can’t get pregnant. The whole pack’s watching me. I can’t escape. You know what I really
want…”
“I know,” I cut him off. “I know exactly what you want. And it isn’t me.”
He reached for me, but I stepped out of his grasp before his hand could touch me.
“I love you, Selena. Don’t make a big deal out of it.”
I gave him a smile with no warmth at all. “What you love is a womb that can get you the throne.”
His brow creased, my words cutting deep. “Do you have to talk like that?”
I didn’t answer, I just sat down on the bed.
He studied me for a few seconds, then turned and walked into the bathroom.
Water splashed as he washed away the sickly sweetness clinging to him.
But I knew what couldn’t be washed off, the mark of another woman on his skin

When he came out wrapped in a towel, his posture was as straight and proud as the day, seven years ago, when he barged into the tent
where I’d taken refuge.
His wolf had scented me then, and he’d smiled.
“Mine. From today on, you’re mine.‘
”
Now, my smile was nothing but mockery.
He came closer. “I want to spend the rest of the night with you. Allow me, please?”
Suddenly, frantic knocking sounded outside. “Alpha, Lilith is unwell. Please come at once!”
His face changed instantly. He dressed faster than the wind.
“What’s wrong with her? Did you call a doctor?” he asked as he strode toward the door, only to pause, remembering me.
“My father’s gone. She has no one but me. I’ll check on her and be right back. You’ve always been so understanding, haven’t you?”
I looked at him, smiling faintly.
“Wait.” I took his cloak from the hook and draped it over his shoulders.
“It’s cold outside. Don’t catch a chill.”
He froze, inhaling the familiar scent, his eyes clouding. “Selena, you…”
Bang,
I shut the door in his face.
Five days left, Corvin.
Just five, and we’ll be gone for good.
He didn’t come back that night.
When my hand brushed the cold side of his bed, there was still that hollow, pointless ache in my chest.
Outside, fireworks lit the night sky. The whole pack was celebrating.
They thought Lilith carried the savior.
Only I knew she carried a monster.
