Chapter6
A shock of cold jolted Corvin awake.
It wasn’t real water, it was his grandmother’s command, driven straight into his mind. He was to inherit the Alpha throne, and today,
he would complete the mating ritual.
He knelt before the sacred mountain temple, a blood–red blessing rune carved across his brow, the Alpha’s cloak draped over his
shoulders. There was no choice. No resistance.
Lilith clung to his arm, her belly just beginning to swell, smiling with the serene confidence of a queen already crowned.
The elders‘ chanting echoed like a curse in his ears. He lowered his head, fingers trembling faintly.
He knew this wasn’t honor. From this moment on, he had become nothing more than their tool.
When the ritual ended, the pack gathered outside the hall. Applause, cheers, and congratulations filled the air, but not everyone was celebrating.
“He won’t even acknowledge his own pup, what kind of Alpha is that?”
“No mate, no official heir. He just got that woman pregnant… did he win the throne with his bloodline or with his stamina?”
“I heard his former mate just walked out on him??”
The offhand barbs slipped between wineglasses, venom soaking into the air.
Corvin sat in the Alpha’s seat, his gaze cold, his expression heavy.
He heard the mockery. He knew the pack’s eyes were on him, not in admiration, but measuring his worth.
Lilith sensed the shift and rose immediately. Her voice was soft, but it carried to every ear in the hall.
“My union with Corvin is guided by the Moon Goddess. Our pup will be the pillar of this pack’s future.”
Her hand rested on her belly as she spoke each word with deliberate weight.
“I am willing to bear all doubts in his place.”
Applause swelled again.
Corvin kept his lips pressed shut and said nothing
Night fell, and the bridal chamber flickered with candlelight.
Lilith wore a silver–white gown crowned with moon blossoms, ber scent sweet and gentle as she glided to his side
Corvin lounged in his chair, eyes half–closed, a man hollowed out
She leaned in, her breath warm against his neck “You’re avoiding me because of her, aren’t you?”
He gave no answer.
Lilith’s laugh was soft, but her hand pressed ticully against his chest. “Corvin, I’m carrying your pup. Exnight you belong to me

ou can’t forget her?” Her teeth clenched. “You’re on top of me and still calling her name?”
e silence turned suffocating.
lith’s gaze went glacial. She struck him again, harder.
Who are you thinking of?”
rvin stared at her, stunned, shamed, confused all at once.
rapping herself in the bedsheet, Lilith stepped back, her laugh low and cold.
It serves you right that she left you.”
ie morning after the wedding night, the sacred mountain was still shrouded in thick fog.
Cervin opened his eyes, head pounding, last night’s memories cutting through his mind like blades.
remembered Lilith beneath him, her eyes red, breathless as she called him Alpha.
He also remembered, when his weight was on her, he had called another name.
Jena.
Slowly, he sat up, pressing the back of his hand over his eyes, as if to block the morning light… or the reality waiting for him.
side him, the too–familiar, too–suffocating body shifted.
rapped in a thin sheet, Lilith leaned close, her voice soft. “You were too rough last night. For a moment, I thought our pup might me early.”
Curvin stayed silent.
Aler fingers traced along the bare line of his spine. “Were you a little too excited? You even called the wrong name ”
Her lone was light, but every word dug into his bones.
Corvin’s gaze chilled, his voice low and hoarse. “You heard wrong.”
Lilith smiled faintly, her hand sliding toward his waist. “Do I look that much like her? Is that why you.
He stood abruptly, jerking away from her touch
Don’t bring her up again.” His voice was deep, taw, but edged like a blade. “You’re my mate in mume now. Don’t use up the last al my patience”
