I found some time to visit my deadbeat dad.
I also took the opportunity to tell him about my marriage.
I sent a message to my mom who’s living abroad.
And I went to see my aunt too.
When Nelson learned that Ben and I had gotten married, his expression wasn’t great.
After a long silence, I anxiously received Nelson’s blessing: “Congratulations.”
Before I left, he told me to call him if I ever needed anything.
It warmed my heart.
After returning to Beijing, I secretly went to attend Ben’s class.
His students started gossiping again about my return.
During class, Ben immediately spotted me hiding in the crowd.
He remained composed and began his lecture.

of everyone.

That shut me right up.
One sentence and he had me blushing.

After class, Ben took me to the cafeteria for lunch.
Watching the energetic students, I asked him for the first time: “Why did you choose to become a teacher?”
Ben’s fork paused mid–bite.
After a few seconds of silence, he asked me back: “What did Nelson tell you about me?”

I picked a few words: “Ruthless, cold–blooded, rarely shows mercy.”
Ben scoffed.
“And you still dared to pursue me?”
I thought for a moment and said: “That’s all in the past, and hearsay doesn’t tell the whole story. I really like the you that I know.”
“Even if you weren’t good, I’d accept it. You can’t let fear stop you from living.”
Ben looked at me, his gaze shifting slightly. “You’re quite bold.”
I smiled. “Not really bold–how else would I have gotten you as my husband?”
Ben’s lips curved up, but he didn’t answer my question.
After lunch, I wanted him to take a walk around campus with

He didn’t refuse.
As we walked, he suddenly gave me the answer to that question.
“I used to be arrogant and ruthless in my actions, and I was

“I completely destroyed my mother’s family because my uncles were too ambitious and wanted to swallow up the Harrison family.”
“My mother was so angry with me that she had a heart attack and died. Before she died, she called me an emotionless demon and said she regretted giving birth to me.”
“All my relatives were afraid of me because I was ruthless enough, cold enough, and had the power to crush them.”
“I guess I suddenly developed a conscience and realized I was indeed too cold and heartless, so I stepped back from the front lines.”
“I went abroad to study, and when I came back, I became a teacher to cultivate my character.”
I listened quietly, remembering the strange attitudes of Ben’s relatives at the dinner table when we first met.
Everything made sense now.
My mind jumped to something very important.
I asked Ben: “How many relationships have you had?”

“A friend. She likes women.”
My eyes lit up. “Really?!”
Ben stopped walking, his gaze turning cold: “What, are you happy
about that?”
“Of course I’m happy that you don’t have a romantic relationship
with her.”
On the busy campus walkway, Ben leaned down and kissed my lips.
He kissed me until my eyes were teary.
“Don’t think about other men, and don’t think about other women either. You can only think about me and look at me.”
