I snickered when I heard it. I didn’t expect that such an evil, cliché plot would happen to me.
But I didn’t want to get angry on the spot, lest it appear that I was guilty.
So I tried to explain gently, “As soon as Elena came back, I cleaned up the largest bedroom on the third floor for her. There is also a study and a bathroom next to it. The whole floor is hers. Why would I have her stay in the doghouse?”
Elena was still lying in Alex’s arms, with her legs wrapped around Alex’s waist. Her eyes were red, and she began to sob again. “Yes, it’s all my fault. As he spoke, his eyes turned red and his voice croaked.

Margaret was so angry that she was shaking all over. She pointed at me and said, “Elena is so well–behaved, how could she want to live in a doghouse by herself? I don’t believe it. Who would live in a doghouse? And, you’re saying that my precious daughter tied the chain to herself?”
I found it too tedious to explain and point around. “There are surveillance cameras everywhere in the house. The surveillance footage is backed up every day. Let’s have a look at the videos and see what happened in the past few days.”
Looking at Elena, who was stiff all over, I smiled again. “Your sister just came back not long ago. She didn’t know about the surveillance system installed in our villa. Come, let’s have a look at the videos, frame by frame!”
Alex and Margaret laughed at me mockingly. “We have thought of this before. We were just checking the surveillance footage of the past few days. Let’s see how you’d argue before cold, hard evidence!”
I put on my coat and walked towards the monitoring room downstairs.
When Elena heard that there was surveillance, her face turned pale with fright and she was shaking like she was having an epileptic seizure.
Alex was still there to comfort her. “Don’t be afraid, Elena. The truth is all in the footage. You have suffered so much, I will definitely help you get revenge!”
