Chapter 20
Julia’s POV
My kick missed the mark. Instead of landing where I aimed, which was his groin, it struck his thigh. Jude’s face twisted in rage, his already bloodshot eyes darkening with fury.
“How dare you?,” he snarled, his voice filled with violent intent.
I barely had time to dodge as he lunged at me and dragged me by my hair before landing me a slap. “You shouldn’t try that next time.” He slapped me again.
Then he pinned me to the wall and held both of my hands behind my back.
“I am not Alex. Don’t mess with me.” He yanked me out of the wall as he made me look him in the eyes. My body screamed in protest, bruised and aching.
I staggered back, gasping for air. My mind reeled, flashing back to my previous experience at the prison before I died. That cold prison, I wouldn’t want to experience such again. No. Never again.
Not when I could use my boxing experience to defend myself. That kick, although a bit clumsy, made me believe in myself once again, convinced that I could still use this skill in my present life.
My breath was coming in fast gaspe. The mascara I had applied earlier was all over my face. My face had turned red including my eyes.
Shortly, he ripped off part of my dress and then chuckled a loud laugh.
“Let me see how you would es….”
I didn’t let him finish. I hit his stomach with my elbow. He freed me and staggered backwards, wincing in pain while he clutched his stomach.
In rage, he approached.
I pivoted on my heel just in time, narrowly dodging his meaty fist as it swung toward my face. The rush of air brushed my cheek. He was angry now. Sloppy. That worked to my advantage.
He lunged again, but I stepped into his attack instead of away from it. A brutal left hook cracked against his ribs. He grunted, staggering, and I used the opening to drive my elbow into his gut.
Before I could land another hit, he grabbed my wrist and wrenched it behind me, yanking me against his chest. A hot, disgusting breath fanned over my ear.
“Let me go, you bastard!” I demanded but he chuckled and then brought his mouth near my ears and then spoke softly, his breath touching the skin of my neck.
“I see you are so brave.”
I continued to struggle out, squeezing my hand with all the energy I have.
“You think you can fight me off?” His voice was a growl of pure rage. “Let’s see how tough you are when…”
I didn’t let him finish.
I jerked my head back, smashing my skull into his nose and he howled in pain, his grip loosening for just a second enough for me to twist free. Blood was gushing out his nostrils.
I kicked him hard in the ribs, sending him wincing in pain. I could see the pain in his eyes now.
Jude charged at me again, his large muscular body barreling forward. But this time, I was ready. I ducked under his arm at the last second and dodged his attack as I slammed my punch into his side. He grunted in pain but didn’t stop.
1 sidestepped his next attack, driving my knee into his stomach before delivering a swift, precise strike to his throat. He choked, staggering
back
I didn’t wait. With everything I had, I sent a vicious kick to the side of his head.
Jude crumpled to the ground and immediately, I seized this opportunity and ran.
I sprinted toward the door, ignoring the burning in my muscles and the pain lancing through my battered body. My fingers fumbled with the handle for only a moment before I wrenched the door open.
Just when I thought I was finally going to escape this nightmare, I realized I was wrong

Two bodyguards stood on the other side and immediately their eyes fell on me.
Jude’s strangled voice rang out behind me. “Stop her, you fools!”
My body, despite its exhaustion, obeyed instinct. I twisted sideways, slipping between the two guards, using my slender body to my advantage. One of them lunged for me, his fingers grazing my arm, but I jerked free and kept running.
My breath came in short, painful gasps. I was covered in injuries. The bodyguards were catching up with me.
I pushed myself harder. My vision blurred from sweat but I refused to slow down. I risked a glance back only to see they were too close. I was already feeling dizzy.
Panic clawed at my throat. Just as I turned my head forward, forcing myself to fasten my pace, I crashed into someone’s chest.
Strong hands gripped my arms, steadying me.
I was too stunned to move, my breath caught in my throat.
I’m screwed.
