Chapter 4
The room went dead quiet instantly. Even the annoying music got turned off.
Several people clamped their hands over my mouth to keep me from making noise.
Damon softened his voice, sucking up like crazy.
“Yeah, I’m back home. You’re coming home tonight? Okay, okay…”
Ivy’s eyes suddenly flicked to me like she’d thought of something evil, and she yelled toward the phone:
“Mr. Grayson! There’s someone here claiming to be your wife!”
Damon’s face went dark, worry flashing in his eyes.
Griffin Grayson on the other end went silent for a long time.
Everyone held their breath.
Griffin finally responded:
“Impossible.”
Hearing this, Damon looked smug and made a victory gesture at me.
“Right, right, Dad. I’ll come home now. I’ll bring Ivy too.”
Ivy’s eyes lit up with joy, looking at me like she’d already won.
They let go of my hands and feet.
I could finally breathe, coughing nonstop.
“He really is–cough cough–my husband. I just didn’t tell him I was coming back today. We have a daughter together–her name is Wendy Grayson!”
Damon laughed coldly.
Ivy patted my face mockingly.
“You really won’t give up until you’re dead, will you? You think we don’t know if Mr. Grayson has kids? Do you have ANY idea who Mr. Grayson is? You won’t even know how you died. I’m only warning you because I actually care about you like a sister.”
“I can come with you and prove it!”
Damon looked at me with contempt, totally unconcerned.
“Fine by me. I’ll even ask my dad to go easy on you when I introduce you–a crazy woman who claims to be his wife because she couldn’t get over me. Absolutely ridiculous.”
Everyone left, with only Ivy hanging back, her face dark as she schemed something nasty.
I shakily got up and put my clothes back on. The moment I stepped outside, a car slammed into me, and pain exploded

through my skull like waves crashing against rocks.
Ivy rolled down her window, looking down at me on the ground with a sneer.
“Scarlett, you didn’t really think I’d give you a chance to play victim in front of Mr. Grayson, did you? Pathetic. Damon belongs
to ME!”
“Dreaming about being Mr. Grayson’s wife–look at yourself! Just lie here and die!”
Meanwhile, Ivy followed Damon back to the Grayson house.
Griffin didn’t particularly like Ivy, but she’d been with Damon overseas for years. Even without credit, she deserved some
consideration.
Damon and Ivy were nothing like their arrogant selves from before–they sat below Griffin with their heads down, totally
submissive.
“Mr. Grayson, you look so young after all these years. When you and Damon go out together, people probably think you’re
brothers.”
Damon nodded eagerly, trying to flatter Griffin while pouring his tea.
“Yeah, Dad. In a few years I’ll be embarrassed to say I’m your son. What father and son look the same age?”
Griffin warmed the tea set with hot water, steam rising gently.
“Get to the point.”
Damon’s fake smile cracked–he’d been totally called out.
Of course they had an agenda. Damon wanted to inherit the family business early, become the young Mr. Grayson everyone envied. But Griffin always said he wasn’t capable enough yet.
Ivy noticed Griffin wasn’t wearing a wedding ring and relaxed.
“Mr. Grayson, let me tell you something funny. Today someone claimed to be your wife.”
Griffin frowned slightly.
“Actually, she’s Damon’s old stalker who stayed pure for him for ten years. Today we stripped her naked and she freaked out so bad, she started saying she was your wife. After hearing you were home on the phone, she wanted to follow us back here like some desperate dog! Hahaha!”
Damon smirked mockingly too. Even though he didn’t really want to bring up Scarlett in front of Griffin–it made him feel like his treasure was being discovered–Ivy’s story was just too hilarious.
“Yeah! She even said you guys have a kid together. The lies she comes up with are so detailed!”
Suddenly, a sweet little voice piped up:
“Daddy! I miss Mommy!”
