On her way back from the HR office, Yvonne was stopped by a colleague.
“Mr. Sullivan just called a meeting for the design department. It looks like he’s going to an- nounce the new director. The meeting is about to start, so you should come with us.‘
Yvonne nodded and followed them to the office.
As they walked, several colleagues congratulated her with big smiles. a
“Yvonne, you’ve been a part of so many key projects these past three years, and your work has won multiple international gold awards. It’s only fair that the director position goes to you.”
“Exactly! You’ve accomplished so much, and Mr. Sullivan thinks highly of you. We all be- lieve you’ll be the new director. When the good news comes, you have to treat us to dinner!”
Having worked with them for so long, Yvonne knew they were genuinely happy for her.
She had planned to tell them about her resignation, but since Colin hadn’t signed the form yet, she decided to let them know during dinner.
“It doesn’t matter whether I become the new director, but I do want to treat everyone to din- ner tonight. I have some news to share.”
The group chatted as they walked, and soon they arrived at the conference room. Yvonne picked a corner and sat down.
Once everyone was there, Colin entered on time, scanned the room, and got straight to the point.
“I’m sure you’ve all heard the rumors. Today’s meeting is to announce the new design direc- tor. If anyone has something to say, now’s your chance.”
All eyes turned to Yvonne. She had hoped to stop the announcement before she resigned.

So, after a brief pause, she met Colin’s calm gaze, took a deep breath, and stood up.

“Mr. Sullivan, over the years, I’ve been entrusted with many projects thanks to your trust. I’ve worked hard alongside my colleagues to complete them successfully. I’m not sure who the director you’re considering is, but before you make the official announcement, I’d like to

Before she could finish saying ‘withdraw as a candidate,‘ Colin cut her off.
“Out of the ten designers in the department, your work is the best, but your qualifications are lacking. So, I’ve decided to bring in a new director who has the experience and credentials needed for this important role.”

His words stunned everyone in the room. Yvonne also stood there in a daze.
Colin’s voice broke the silence.
“Let me introduce the new director of the design department, Sienna Jefferson.”
The conference room door opened, and Sienna walked in with a smile.
“Hello, everyone, I’m Sienna, a doctoral student from Milan Design Academy. I’ve also won the European Youth Design Award…”
The room fell silent. Everyone exchanged looks, their expressions awkward.
That was because many of the designers present had won the awards Sienna had just men- tioned.
She also had no professional experience and had been placed in the role right after graduat- 1. It was hard for everyone to accept, especially the senior designers who had been there
nearly five years. One of them spoke up.
Mr. Sullivan, we all feel that Ms. Jefferson lacks experience and needs at least another two years before she can be the director. Yvonne is more qualified for the position.”
As the others nodded in agreement, Sienna’s eyes filled with tears, and she looked at Colin with a hurt expression.
Seeing her tears, Colin’s gaze softened briefly, but when he looked at Yvonne, his eyes

“Sienna is a top graduate from a prestigious school with numerous international awards. In terms of vision and ability, Yvonne can’t compare to her.
“Yvonne may have handled many projects, but her success was built on the strong founda- tion of the design department. Even if I give all of this to Sienna, she’ll handle it perfectly or even better. Therefore, the position of design department director must go to Sienna. No fur- ther discussion.”
