Chapter 6
I snapped, “Why the hell should I? She brought this on herself.“[]
I grabbed the door handle to get out, but he’d already hit the locks. “You made her lose the baby, nearly ruined her marriage–and you can’t even say sorry?“]
His eyes were bloodshot as he stared me down, completely unhinged.[]
I actually laughed. “Isn’t this perfect? Now you two can finally be together.“[]
That set him off. Cassian bolted out of the car, ripped open my door, and dragged me out by the arm.]
“You’re apologizing today. Period.”
He was already pulling me toward the villa.[]
I tried to fight back, but I wasn’t strong enough to break free.
He dragged me all the way into what used to be our bedroom.
Seraphine lay pale in bed. The moment she saw me, she got up and stormed over, slapping me hard across the face.
“You bitch! You killed my baby. I’ll kill you!“]]
She raised her hand to hit me again, but Cassian stopped her. “Seraphine, don’t. You’re still recovering. I’ll make her get on her knees and apologize.”
He turned to me with cold eyes. “Kneel and apologize to Seraphine. Then we can put this behind us.“]
I spat at his feet. “In your dreams.“[]
Pain shot through my knee as he forced me down.[]
Cassian pressed down on my shoulders. “You’re here now. You don’t get a choice.”
Seeing me like this, Seraphine’s face lit up with sick satisfaction. She slowly crouched down, eyes blazing with hatred.]
“How can you be so evil? Does it feel good knowing you killed an innocent child?“[]
I met her stare head–on, not backing down an inch.[]
“Damn right. I wanted your baby dead. I want you and Cassian dead too.“[]
“Then you can go first.”
My eyes went wide as I watched her pull out a fruit knife and plunge it into my body.[]
Cassian finally snapped out of it, shoving her away and catching me as I fell. “Lyra! Oh God, are you okay?“]
I felt no pain, but everything went black and I lost consciousness.[]
When I came to, I was staring at white hospital ceiling tiles. Cassian was slumped in the chair beside my bed, dozing.]
Chapter 6
For a split second, my brain couldn’t process it. Then it all came flooding back.[]
I wanted to rip his throat out.[]
I spotted a water pitcher on the nightstand. Moving carefully despite the stabbing pain, I reached for it.[]
The rustling must have woken him. His face broke into this pathetic, hopeful smile.[]
I grabbed the pitcher and hurled it at his head.[]
It caught him right in the forehead before he could duck. Blood immediately started streaming down his face.[]
He looked stunned for a moment, then walked over looking like a kicked puppy.[]
I jerked away from his touch so violently it tore at my stitches. I couldn’t hold back a sharp cry.[]
“Lyra, God, I’m so sorry. I had no idea she had a knife-“]
Ilis voice was shaking, eyes full of guilt and desperation.[]
“Get out.“]
The words ripped out of my throat, sending fresh agony through my wound. I looked down–blood was seeping through my hospital gown.]]
Cassian went white and bolted for the door, shouting for a doctor.[]
He kept showing up over the next few days, bringing flowers and food I wouldn’t touch.[]
When hunger finally got to me, I had to hire a private nurse. I couldn’t tell my parents what happened–they’d lose their minds with worry.]
During that time, I also got a lawyer.[]
