I moved in with Sawyer.
Then Leo showed up again.
He ambushed me one day as I was going for a
walk.
“Clara, we need to talk.”
I walked around him. “Mr. Maxwell, we have
nothing to talk about.”
“I’m not a freaking Maxwell!” Leo yelled. “I’m
Leo Maxwell, your husband, the guy you’ve
known for ten years! How can you forget me?”
<
I laughed.
I remembered how happy he’d been when I was
first diagnosed with intermittent amnesia.
“Okay, Mr. Maxwell. Whoever you are, I don’t
care. I have no memory of you. Leave me
alone.”
I turned to go.
Leo grabbed my arm.
His voice was desperate. “You’re mad about
Heidi, aren’t you? I dumped her. She aborted
the baby. We can start over.”
“No,” I said, shaking him off. “You’re a cheater.
You don’t get to do this. You should be
punished.”
“Okay, punish me, whatever you want, just
come hack
دو
come back.”
Suddenly, a car roared up.
“Clara, watch out!”
Before I could react, the car hit me, hard.
Then everything went black.
I woke up in a hospital bed.
Two men were standing there, looking worried.
“Clara, you’re awake!”
Leo was crying, slapping himself. “It’s my fault!
I’m so sorry! I’ll get you the best lawyers and
throw her in jail!”
“Who are you? What are you talking about?”
<
Leo froze. “You… you lost your memory
again?”
“I don’t remember anything.”
Leo jumped up, grinning. “It’s okay! I’m your husband, Leo Maxwell! I’ll help you remember! I
even brought our marriage certificate!”
He pulled out a crumpled piece of paper,
pointing at the pictures.
“See? That’s you… that’s me. I’m your
husband! You can forget me, but we can start over!”
“Stop!” I said. “I don’t know you. I’d never like you. I don’t know how you got that marriage certificate, but I want a divorce!”
“What?”
Leo was shocked. “Why? Why won’t you accent
Leo was shocked. “Why? Why won’t you accept
me? After all these years?
“I have no memory of you. I don’t see you as
my husband!”
Leo screamed, “What do I have to do? You
accept my idiot friends every time you lose your memory, but not me! Why?”
I felt nothing.
Too late for regrets.
He’d done this to himself.
Leo clutched his stomach and started vomiting
blood.
Sawyer called the nurses.
Leo was rushed to the ER.
<
Sawyer sat next to me. “Clara, do you……
remember me?”
I shook my head. “No.”
Sawyer clenched his fists.
“Try to remember. I’m…”
“I’m tired,” I said. “Just leave me alone. I want
to sleep.”
