Chapter 4
Laura slapped Jason’s cheeks hard, barely managing to wake
him up.
After waking up, Jason kept complaining about pain in his lower back.
Kyle, Jennifer, and Laura didn’t take Jason’s symptoms seriously, instead mocking him: “That’s impossible, stop pretending.”
Jason was transferred to a strictly managed private school. He had to board there Monday through Friday, and outsiders weren’t allowed to enter.
This was Jason’s first time boarding at school. For management purposes, students had to report to the dorm supervisor to use the bathroom at night, and they were only allowed to go once; otherwise, the school would notify their parents.
One symptom of uremia is frequent urination. Jason needed to use the bathroom several times each night, but he was afraid the school would call his parents, so he didn’t dare go and had to
endure it.
Finally, one day, Jason collapsed.
The school immediately sent Jason to the hospital. Seeing Jason’s swollen limbs and pale face, the doctor made a

preliminary diagnosis that he might have uremia.
This news shocked the entire family.
Laura nearly fainted, unable to stand steadily.

Kyle was slightly calmer, loudly objecting: “Impossible! Jason is healthy, he can’t have uremia. You’re a quack. You’re jumping to conclusions before Jason has even been properly examined. I’m going to file a complaint against your hospital.”
The doctor had seen this kind of reaction many times and didn’t argue with Kyle, simply taking Jason for further tests.
After seeing the test results, they finally had to accept the harsh reality.
“Oh my God! Jason, how could you get this disease?” Laura screamed.
Jennifer’s eyes widened in disbelief. Kyle couldn’t say a word, his masculine energy completely drained.
The doctor quickly reassured them: “As long as Jason
consistently comes to the hospital for dialysis, his condition can be stabilized.”
Even so, Jason would need dialysis for life, and his lifespan would be shortened. Jason was only twelve years old now, and it was almost impossible for him to have a normal lifespan like a

healthy person.

They had also researched online before and knew that dialysis was expensive and needed to be done long–term. This would be a heavy financial burden on their family.
The doctor said: “There is a way to completely cure this disease.”
They knew what the doctor was referring to—a kidney transplant for Jason.
Laura was the first to react, saying: “A kidney transplant will work, right? I’ll donate. I’m willing to save Jason’s life!”
Although Laura was willing to donate a kidney, they still needed to do compatibility testing.
Kyle said to Laura and Jennifer: “We’ll all get tested for compatibility and see the results.”
The possibility of a successful match was higher with a relative’s kidney.
They were all prepared to try, but Kyle hesitated internally.
Kyle had researched online before and knew that missing one kidney would lead to decreased physical fitness and the inability to have children in the future, essentially making him half–disabled.

Kyle worried that if he donated his kidney to Jason and lost his ability to have children, and if Jason didn’t survive, he would never have children again.
Thinking of this possibility, Kyle was unwilling to do the compatibility testing.
Neither Laura’s nor Jennifer’s kidneys matched with Jason’s, and the family’s last hope was shattered.
“Kyle, why didn’t you get tested! If Jason dies, I’ll kill you!” Jennifer discovered Kyle hadn’t been tested and cried out in despair.
Kyle pushed Jennifer down and roared: “You idiot, the doctor said Jason could live for more than ten years with dialysis. If I give my kidney to Jason, I won’t be able to work and earn money. Who will support this family?”
“After he gets a new kidney, just the anti–rejection medications will cost thousands of dollars a month. Where would that money come from?”
Jennifer was a housewife, and Kyle controlled all the money in the family. She was powerless to resist.
Seeing the tense atmosphere, Kyle continued to explain: “Jason is my son too, and I love him. If I continue to work and earn money to support Jason, he can live for another twenty years

without problems. We can also have another child. By then, maybe the new child’s kidney will be compatible with Jason’s. That would solve the problem.”
Jennifer, seeing Jason’s suffering, still couldn’t bear it.
Laura thought Kyle’s reasoning made sense. Kyle was the family’s only source of income and couldn’t donate a kidney. Jennifer could have another child.
Laura supported Kyle’s decision.
