Chapter 6
I blocked everyone’s contact information the day I left.
My family went to my company looking for me, only to discover I had already resigned.
I completely disappeared from their lives and cut off all contact.
This made them even more certain that I was doing it deliberately.
Seeing Jason’s suffering, my family members vowed to find me.
They reported me missing to the police, hoping authorities would locate me, but the police stated that as an adult, I had the right to choose not to contact my family and refused to open a
case.
When the police wouldn’t help, they turned to public opinion to force me to comply.
One evening, they started a livestream titled “Finding Brittany.”
Laura put on a loving facade for the camera, saying: “I’ve exhausted all options and asked everyone for help. Jason is still so young, and I just can’t bear to watch him leave us.”
“Brittany, I miss you. Please come back.”

After she finished speaking, Jason, who was in her arms, immediately started crying and calling my name, as if we had some deep bond.
Then Kyle began accusing me of being cold–hearted and released videos of me breaking furniture.
Through their efforts, they crafted the image of a heartless woman who disregarded family ties.
“Brittany is so cruel, refusing to save her nephew.”
“Jason only needs a kidney, that’s all.”
Internet users began investigating my information.
Soon, someone posted my photos in the comments.
“Is this her? I saw her at the supermarket a few days ago.”
“I spotted Brittany on the subway yesterday. She definitely looks like a wicked person.”
“I’m her neighbor.”
Seeing that my information was about to be exposed, I fled New York overnight.
It was flu season, so wearing a mask and hat didn’t draw any
attention.

After finding a new place to stay, I checked my phone and discovered Laura had already found my former apartment.
Fortunately, I left quickly enough.
However, they did gain something. They gained more followers and made more money.
My family discovered that when they livestreamed during Jason’s dialysis sessions, viewers would excitedly send them gifts.
Later, when Jason got used to dialysis and stopped crying, they would secretly pinch him to make him cry more pitifully.
I hid in a hotel gathering evidence.
My family forgot they had once asked me to buy a security camera for the living room.
All the conversations and the spaghetti drawing incident from that day had been recorded.
I edited the surveillance footage, added subtitles, and posted it online, where it gained widespread attention.
The situation took a dramatic turn.
“They deserve it! Brittany shouldn’t have been bullied!”

“Thank goodness Brittany escaped.”
“The truth always comes to light.”
Kyle’s livestream channel was reported and shut down. The comment section that was once filled with my photos now contained only unflattering pictures of them.
Now my family members have to cover their faces when going to the hospital.
Angry internet users sent them garbage, scaring them so much they didn’t dare leave home.
However, people soon forgot about the whole incident.
Everything seemed to return to square one.
