Chapter 100
“I don’t want to go to the hospital. Some painkillers will do,” Sarah protested.
Zachary’s knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. “Has it always been this severe?”
“No, it usually doesn’t hurt this much. I just skipped lunch and had too much coffee today,” Sarah admitted sheepishly.
“You should have known better.” His voice carried gentle reproach.
She paused. “I did. I just got caught up in work and forgot to eat.”
The hospital’s emergency entrance was quiet at this hour – no lines, just the on–call staff. Luckily, the gynecologist was available
and quickly prescribed pain medication.
“Take these after meals, and don’t skip any doses,” the doctor instructed.
Sarah nodded obediently. She wanted to explain that it wasn’t usually this bad – skipping meals had just been a mistake.
During the drive to her apartment, Zachary remained silent, his expression taut. Once they arrived, he grabbed the medication
bag and strode toward the elevator.
Sarah stared for a moment before hurrying after him.
At her door, she fumbled with the keys. “It’s late, Mr. Reynolds. You should get some rest.”
He ignored her and headed straight for the kitchen, where he began preparing food. 1
“Mr. Reynolds…”
After freshening up, Sarah emerged to find him intently focused on making chicken soup, as if he were negotiating a major
business deal.
Soon, appetizing aromas filled the apartment. She took one of the prescribed pills.
Zachary spotted her empty stomach. “You need to eat before taking medication.” (1
Sarah paused, pill in hand. “I just wanted to take it quickly.”
“Mm.” He placed a bowl of soup in front of her. “Eat first, then take the medicine.”
Sarah inhaled the comforting aroma. “It smells amazing.”
He nodded and sat across from her. “How are the preparations for tomorrow?”
“Everything’s set up. Now we just wait for the competition. I just hope nothing goes wrong,” she replied seriously.
She couldn’t help worrying about potential sabotage, especially with Lucy competing.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be there,” he said calmly.
Sarah stirred her soup, giving him a skeptical look. “You were at your family’s event last time, and at Lucy’s party too.”
“Are you suggesting I can’t keep you safe?” His eyes held a teasing glint.
“Not at all. I wouldn’t dare presume on your protection.” She took a spoonful of soup, savoring its warmth.
“Of course not. Clever Sarah knows best,” he chuckled.

Her cheeks flushed. His tone made her feel like a child. She cleared her throat awkwardly. “I feel like you’re used to talking like
this because of Mia.”
Zachary shook his head. “Mia doesn’t need coddling. You, on the other hand, are still just a kid. Otherwise, how did you end up in
this state from skipping meals?”
“You’ve mentioned that several times now!” Sarah said, caught between annoyance and embarrassment.
He stood up. “Repetition helps it sink in.”
“I can handle this!” Sarah said quickly, trying to stand. She realized she was getting too comfortable with him.
