Chapter 125
She clung tightly to Sarah’s arm, crying, as if this was her only source of security.
Sarah let her hold on, wondering what Mia must have experienced to make her feel so unsafe.
“I’m here. Don’t be afraid. I’m right here,” she said softly.
Mia gradually calmed down but kept holding Sarah’s arm, her eyes darting around anxiously.
Jane took a sip of coffee and checked the time. “Let me drive you both home – it’s getting late.”
“Thank you, Dr. Lawrence.”
Sarah and Mia got into Jane’s car, and they quickly arrived at the apartment building.
Before leaving, Jane told her: “My senior colleague will be returning to the country soon. He’s a more experienced psychiatrist than I am. I’ll mention you to him he might get in touch.”
“Thank you,” Sarah replied sincerely.
As she closed the car door, Jane lowered the window for one last comment: “Your research paper is incredibly valuable. I’ve sent my questions and thoughts about it to your email. You shouldn’t just be a counselor at Adams – it’s wasting your talent.”
Sarah watched the car drive away, her mind stirring with possibilities.
Back home, she got Mia’s favorite book for her to read while she sat on the couch to apply her burn cream. She faced away from Mia, trying to hide the wound.
Before she finished, Zachary arrived.
“Thanks for everything, Sasa.” Zachary put down a file folder and reached for the burn cream.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore. I can do it myself,” Sarah pulled away from his outstretched hand.
“But you’ve watched Mia all day and even consulted Dr. Lawrence about her condition. Let me help with something at least.”
Sarah had told Zachary about taking Mia to see Jane. She smiled, “Mia’s much more stable now. Dr. Lawrence suggested taking her to places where she feels safe, let her process things herself.”
“I understand.”
“Has James contacted you again?” Zachary asked suddenly.
Sarah shook her head, “No, hopefully he knows better now.”
“He went to Adams University. Dean Larson just called me,” Zachary raised an eyebrow.
“Don’t tell me he went to ask the Dean to let Lucy off? He can’t be that stupid?” Sarah looked disgusted.

At Adams University, James left the Dean’s office looking grim. He’d tried every argument he could think of, but the Dean wouldn’t budge. Even mentioning the Board of Directors hadn’t helped clearly, the Reynolds family wasn’t backing down
He was out of options. He’d tried everything.
Desperately, he thought of Sarah again, but he already knew her answer.
Back in his car, he pulled out his phone and found Sarah’s number, his finger hovering over the call button but never pressing it.
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
The phone suddenly vibrated violently, making him jump. It was his mother calling.
He rubbed his temples, already knowing what she’d say – undoubtedly demanding he get Lucy released.
But no one knew he’d already tried everything possible. He sighed and finally answered.
“James, what did the Dean say? We’re on the Board of Directors – how could he not give us any
face?
