Chapter 129
James had just signed a contract at an upscale tea lounge, but his thoughts were elsewhere. The image of Sarah standing next to
Zachary kept replaying in his mind, unsettling him.
As he left the tea lounge, he noticed a long line of people outside a nearby dessert shop bustling with activity.
His assistant caught his glance and explained, “Mr. Chancer, that’s Taste Avenue, a famous dessert shop here in East Coast City.
People drive for hours just to line up for their treats. It’s become a must–visit spot, but their supplies are limited, so not everyone
gets what they want.”
Taste Avenue.
The name stirred a memory.
He remembered coming home from work one evening, finding Sarah excitedly showing off her latest purchase. The coffee table had been covered with desserts of all shapes and sizes.
“James, look! This is their famous ice tart. I waited in line for three hours to get it. Come try a bite,” she said with a bright smile,
holding the tart up to him.
He had only glanced at her coldly and replied, “I’m busy. Don’t bother me.‘
He recalled how her smile faltered, her eyes dimming instantly. But at the time, he didn’t care. He didn’t like her, so her reactions
didn’t matter. Whether his words hurt her or not, or how much effort she put into buying those desserts, was irrelevant to him.
The memory surged back vividly, and he could almost smell the faint, sweet aroma of the ice tart she had offered.
“Do they sell ice tarts here?” he asked suddenly.
His assistant was momentarily stunned but quickly responded, “Yes, it’s one of their most famous items.”
“Get in 1
and buy some. Get a variety of other desserts too.”
As his assistant joined the queue, James touched his chest. It was a strange feeling, as though his heart had been riddled with
cracks he desperately wanted to mend.
He told himself he didn’t care about Sarah. He was just trying to ease the guilt clawing at his mind, trying to stop the
uncomfortable ache inside.
Sitting in the car, he watched the line slowly shrink.

What had Sarah been three hours she stood waiting in line for him?
When the assistant finally returned with the desserts, the sweet aroma filled the car.
“You can go home now. No need to come back to the office today–spend some time with your girlfriend,” James said.

The assistant, overjoyed, replied, “Thank you, Mr. Chancer.”
Driving off, James made a stop at a pharmacy, purchasing burn ointment.
Meanwhile, Sarah was at a large supermarket near her apartment with Zachary and Mia.
Mia was pushing a shopping cart that was already packed with groceries–seasonings, fruits, and vegetables.
“Let’s check out the meat section,” Sarah suggested.
Zachary nodded, following her.
As they browsed the meat aisle, Mia clung tightly to Sarah’s hand, squeezing it so hard it began to hurt.
Under the UV light, the meat looked almost too vivid, making Mia visibly uneasy. She began murmuring nervously, “Let me let me go. My brother will save me,”
Sarah quickly covered Mia’s eyes. “It’s okay, Mia. We’ll leave in a moment.”
Having spent days carefully helping Mia recover, Sarah couldn’t let her be triggered again.
“Zachary, could you pick out some meat? I’ll take Mia over to the other side,” Sarah said before leading Mia away. Zachary watched them leave, a heavy look in his eyes.
Back at home, Sarah took charge in the kitchen while Zachary assisted her.
