Chapter 134
“Miss Garnett, this way. Please wait here for a moment while I inform Mr. Chancer,” the butler said politely as he led Charlotte to
the living room.
Once inside, the butler discreetly informed James about Charlotte’s arrival. James’s expression darkened, and he immediately
went to meet her.
“What are you doing here?” His tone carried a hint of irritation.
Charlotte feigned nonchalance, smiling softly. “I heard you say Grandpa hasn’t been feeling well lately, so I brought him some
supplements. I originally wanted to come with you, but you left so quickly. I had no choice but to drive here on my own.”
James barely glanced at the box of supplements and spoke gently but firmly. “Charlotte, you know how Grandpa feels about you…
Maybe it’s best if you head back for now.”
Charlotte froze, disbelief flashing across her face. Her eyes reddened as she stared at James. “James, I came here out of kindness, and you’re telling me to leave? We’re getting married, aren’t we? For the future, I need to build a good relationship with Grandpa.
Please trust me I’m willing to do anything for you.”
James frowned slightly but remained silent.
“Grandpa will see my sincerity, James,” she insisted, brushing past him into the living room with the supplements in hand.
“Grandpa, I’ve come to visit you!” she said cheerfully, only to stop in her tracks when she spotted someone she didn’t want to see
-Sarah.
James followed behind, calling, “Charlotte!”
Charlotte’s expression faltered, and she bit her lip in embarrassment before forcing a strained smile, Miss Sanders, you’re here
too.”
Sarah glanced up briefly, nodded, and returned her attention to the chessboard in front of her.
Feeling slighted, Charlotte turned her attention to Richard, trying to mask her discomfort. “Grandpa, I heard your appetite hasn’t been great lately, so I brought some supplements for you. I’ll have the butler cook them later so you can try them. If you like
them, I’ll get more for you.”
She held out the box eagerly, hoping to gain his approval, but Richard didn’t even glance her way. His focus remained entirely on
the chessboard.
Disheartened, Charlotte lowered her hand and cast a pitiful look toward James.
Sarah, noticing the tension, spoke with a light smile. “Grandpa, Miss Garnett brought these with good intentions. You should
take them.”
Her words weren’t meant to help Charlotte but rather to case the awkwardness of being stared at.

Richard gave Charlotte a fleeting glance before pointing indifferently at a side table. “Leave them there. Thank you,” he said coldly.
“Alright,” Charlotte murmured, her eyes welling with tears.
Refusing to give up, she moved closer to the chessboard, trying to assess the game’s progress, “Grandpa, maybe you could make this move,” she suggested, attempting to show interest in Go.
Richard didn’t hesitate to place a piece in a completely different position. “Do you not know the rule ‘no talking while watching a game‘? Don’t pretend to know if you don’t understand,” he scolded sharply.
James interjected, trying to ease the tension. “Grandpa, Charlotte doesn’t know much about Go.”
“Then she shouldn’t stand here pretending she does. It’s against the rules,” Grandpa snapped impatiently.
“I’m sorry, Grandpa,” Charlotte stammered, her composure faltering.
The more Richard dismissed her, the more resentment Charlotte felt toward Sarah, Why did Grandpa adore Sarah so much while being so cold toward her?
Trying once more, she softened her tone. “Grandpa, I’d love to learn Go from you. When Miss Sanders isn’t here, I can play with you.”
Sarah looked up, her eyes meeting Charlotte’s pitiful expression. Instead of sympathy, she felt a surge of irritation.
