Ten dresses were laid out before Mia, who excitedly pulled Sarah around to look at them. “Sarah, which one do you like?”
“This one.”
Sarah pointed to a light pink dress, similar to a crinoline but shorter than the usual style.
With Mia’s slim waist and delicate features, this dress would suit her perfectly.
“Perfect, I’ll take it. Please have it altered and delivered to my house,” she told the manager.
“Of course, Miss Reynolds.“!
Mia tugged at Sarah’s arm. “Sarah, which one do you want to try?”
Sarah scanned the collection. None of the ten dresses matched her style. The boutique’s designs – all princess and young
feminine styles – suited Mia but weren’t her taste.
“Nothing here catches my eye. Let’s try somewhere else.”
Mia nodded. “Okay.”
They left for another boutique that featured more minimalist designs without elaborate details.
After browsing, Sarah walked toward one dress.
Mia followed, pointing excitedly. “Sarah, this one! It’s gorgeous!”
Sarah nodded in agreement.
After giving her address, the dress would be delivered tomorrow.
The third floor was filled with jewelry stores. Sarah wanted to find Zachary a birthday gift but felt overwhelmed by choices.
“Mia, what does your brother like?” she asked casually.
“You.” Mia quickly covered her mouth, giggling. “I mean, he’ll like anything you give him.”
Sarah blushed. Though she knew Mia was teasing, her heart still skipped a beat.
“Sarah, I’m going to look over there,” Mia scampered off.
Left alone at the jewelry store, Sarah pondered. Zachary wore suits daily, but a tie seemed too intimate, a watch too expensive, and items like wallets or belts carried special meaning. What else could she get?
Suddenly, she spotted something in the display case.
“Excuse me, I’d like this wrapped, please.”

On the way home, Mia kept asking what Sarah had bought, regretting that she’d run off.
“Was it a watch?”
Sarah smiled and shook her head. “No.”
“A necklace then?”
“Your brother doesn’t wear necklaces…”
“Oh! A bracelet? I saw you looking at those.”
Sarah laughed. “Aren’t those for women?”
“Come on! What is it, Sarah? Please tell me!” Mia clung to her arm, pleading.
“Ask your brother later – that’s what you get for running off!”
“I regret it so much…”
Sarah just smiled and led her home, the setting sun behind them.
The day before the birthday party, Sarah felt distracted.
Though Mia had given her an invitation, she wasn’t sure if Zachary actually wanted her there.
During break at Adams University, Lucy was chatting with classmates.
Suddenly, a female student exclaimed, “Wow! Look at him! He’s so handsome!”
Lucy looked over and froze
Wasn’t that Zachary? Why was he here?

Her eyes narrowed as she hurried downstairs, quickly making her way to his side. She put on her sweetest voice, “Mr. Reynolds, what brings you to Adams University? Are you here for Mia?”
