Chapter 149
Zachary’s cold gaze barely flickered. “This has nothing to do with you.”
“Mr. Reynolds, I’m only trying to help,” Lucy said, forcing a smile despite her displeasure.
“No need,” he replied, his steps never faltering.
Watching his retreating figure, Lucy stomped her foot in frustration. Still unwilling to give up, she caught up with him again.
“Mr. Reynolds, your birthday is tomorrow. Can I have an invitation?” She batted her eyelashes, trying to appear innocent.
Zachary didn’t even glance at her, continuing toward the psychology office without a word.
Lucy froze, her gaze fixed on his back. She realized he wasn’t here for Mia; he was heading for Sarah. The humiliation stung–she
had lowered herself to ask for an invitation, and Zachary hadn’t even given her the courtesy of a response.
Her face darkened with fury. This was all Sarah’s fault. If not for her, none of this would be happening. Their family would still
have their rightful place, with invitations to every important event.
Inside the psychology office, Sarah was organizing student files. After inputting the last case into the system, she stretched,
leaning back in her chair with her eyes closed, basking in the warmth of the afternoon sun. Humming softly, she felt at ease.
Suddenly, hands pressed gently on her shoulders, starting to massage them. Without opening her eyes, she smiled knowingly.
“Mia, shouldn’t you be in class?”
“By the way, Lucy hasn’t been bothering you again, has she?” she continued. “And do you think the gift I picked out yesterday is
something your brother will like?”
When there was no response, Sarah hesitated. Something felt off. A familiar cedarwood scent drifted to her nose, and her eyes
flew open.
Zachary was standing behind her, his gentle smile making her heart skip a beat.
Why was he here? And had he heard everything she just said?
“Mr. Reynolds, what are you doing here? Are you looking for Mia?” she stammered, avoiding his gaze.
Zachary chuckled softly. “What did you pick out for me?”
“You must have misheard.” Flustered, Sarah jumped up and headed for the water cooler, pretending to busy herself.
When she returned, she noticed a sleek black invitation card on her desk–the same design Mia had given her earlier.
“Tomorrow’s my birthday party, Sasa. I’d like you to come,” Zachary said.
Sarah opened her desk drawer, revealing the card Mia had already given her. “Mia’s already invited me.”
Zachary added his card to the drawer beside Mia’s. “That one’s from Mia. This one’s from me.”

Sarah raised an eyebrow. “I doubt you came all this way just to deliver an invitation.”
“Of course not.” Zachary shrugged casually.
She watched as he placed a box of desserts on her desk. “And this,” he said.
“Just desserts?” she asked skeptically.

“Just desserts,” he confirmed, his expression serious. “I heard that inviting someone important requires a personal touch. Isn’t
this enough to show how important you are?”
Before she could respond, Zachary straightened. “Well, I’ve delivered it. Don’t forget about tomorrow night.”
As he turned to leave, his warmth faded, replaced by his usual aloof demeanor.
On the evening of the party, Sarah slipped into the dress she and Mia had picked out the day before, along with a carefully chosen
gift. Mia had gone home the night before with Zachary to help with preparations, leaving Sarah to arrive on her own.
To her surprise, as she stepped outside, Steven was already waiting for her.
