Chapter 155
That night, the Chancer household was in turmoil over a rumor Lucy had heard.
She quickly turned her phone screen toward the three people at the dinner table. “Mom! James, Charlotte, look at this!”
The screen showed a man and woman dancing, embracing as her dress swirled around them.
Though many others were dancing around them, James immediately recognized Sarah and Zachary.
His fingers trembled slightly as he silently sipped his soup.
Charlotte noticed his reaction and remarked thoughtfully, “It’s not surprising, really. They’re always together anyway.”
Mrs. Chancer angrily threw down her utensils with a cold snort. “I’ve been saying all along – Sarah divorced you such a short time ago and now she’s getting cozy with the Reynolds family. You never believed she was unfaithful during your marriage, and you still gave her eight million plus a house and car. Go get it all back!”
When Mrs. Chancer mentioned money, Lucy glanced secretly at James, hoping he’d reclaim it – after all, their mother had promised the money to her if he got it back,
James set down his utensils, his face expressionless. “This might not even be true. Sarah attended a ball, and Reynolds asked her for one dance. That doesn’t mean anything.”
“That’s not all! Zachary admitted it himself! Miss Kourtney asked him directly about the rumors, and he didn’t even try to deny it -he said it was true!” Lucy exclaimed angrily.
Mrs. Chancer muttered, “Miss Kourtney is the Stellar Entertainment heiress. She wouldn’t lie about this.”
–
“Exactly! Brother, why do you keep defending that woman?” Lucy had noticed something was off earlier it wasn’t right how her brother kept inviting Sarah to visit their grandfather.
James instinctively glanced at Charlotte, then glared at Lucy. “Watch what you’re saying! Your sister–in–law is right here!”
“I’m not wrong! You’ve been acting strange! You talk about Charlotte being here, but you’re the one always inviting Sarah to grandfather’s house!” Lucy glared back.
Charlotte’s face darkened as she put down her chopsticks, at a loss for words
Mrs. Chancer stood up abruptly, pointing at James furiously. “Is what Lucy’s saying true? You actually brought that woman to our family home? What about Charlotte’s position in all this? I’m warning you don’t get tangled up with that woman again. Charlotte is my only daughter–in–law!”
–
“Mother, please don’t blame James,” Charlotte said, looking at Mrs. Chancer pitifully. “He’s just concerned about grandfather. Grandfather doesn’t like me, that’s why he hasn’t taken me. I understand ”
James looked at her downcast eyes, feeling guilty. Though he’d never considered leaving Charlotte, he had found himself drawn

to Sarah again.
He quietly took Charlotte’s hand. “I’m sorry. I didn’t consider your feelings.”
Even as he spoke, his thoughts were in chaos.
His mind kept returning to what Lucy had said about Sarah and Zachary
That photo seemed burned into his brain, refusing to fade.
In it, Sarah smiled tenderly while Zachary looked at her with complete devotion.
It reminded him of how Sarah used to look, long ago.
During their marriage, they’d attended countless events, though not all included dancing.
But he clearly remembered his own birthday celebration, which Sarah had carefully planned. When the waltz began playing, he’d
seen the hopeful look in her eyes traditionally, a husband should ask his wife for the first dance.
