Chapter 17
His reaction startled them. One friend hesitantly explained, “After Charlotte left, you were in a dark place. The board was losing faith. Then these major accounts suddenly appeared. My father told me Sarah secured them using her status as your wife. She never mentioned it, knowing you wouldn’t approve.”
She had no business background, no degree. She’d used the family name he resented. She must have known he’d reject the deals if he knew, so she’d kept quiet.
For three years.
James sat in the shadows of the private lounge, remembering her face today. His chest tightened unexpectedly.
That evening, he returned home to find Charlotte and his mother on the living room sofa, looking like the perfect family.
“James!” his mother brightened. “Join us. Charlotte and I were planning the wedding. She had this lovely idea about holding an outdoor garden wedding, but I thought we could do a grand church ceremony as well…”
“Mom, could Charlotte and I have a moment?”
“Of course, darling. Take your time.”
After his mother disappeared upstairs, James nursed his scotch. Finally, he turned to Charlotte. “We should find your parents another place.”
Charlotte stiffened, then moved closer, her lip trembling. “James, I had no idea about the house. But both our mothers are already
upset. Moving them now… people might think you still have feelings for Sarah.”
Her eyes welled up, making her look particularly vulnerable.
His resolve crumbled. Pulling her close, he murmured, “We’ll wait a few days. Sarah won’t mind.”
Charlotte nodded softly, though something calculated flickered in her eyes.
But before James could make arrangements, Sarah struck first.
After finalizing the lease with Steven and settling into her new apartment, Sarah completed her paperwork at Adams University.
Then came the call from the property office all the real estate from James had been officially transferred to her name. 1
One call to the security office was all it took.

Within minutes, security arrived at the luxury townhouse and firmly escorted Mr. and Mrs. Garnett out.
“This is outrageous!” Mrs. Garnett sputtered. “You can’t evict us!”
The guard looked unmoved. “Owner’s orders. Leave now, or we involve the police.”

property!”
When she refused to move, security began relocating their luggages. Mrs. Garnett’s sophisticated veneer shattered as she screamed and grabbed at their belongings, creating quite the spectacle for the upscale neighborhood.
Furious, she called Charlotte, finally learning the truth about the property transfer. (1)
While booking her parents into the hotel, Charlotte tried to smooth things over. “Mom, since the house is Sarah’s now, I’ll have James find you something better.”

“Have you lost your mind?” her mother hissed. “Why should his ex–wife get anything? What about your opinion on this?”
