Chapter 174
Sarah leaped onto the fire escape between the second floor and ground level.
She jumped down and bolted through the main gate.
Grace quickly pursued in her car, but Sarah darted through narrow alleys where cars couldn’t follow, eventually losing her.
She avoided main streets, fearing she’d be spotted.
She sprinted through back alleys for nearly an hour without seeing a soul. Her feet were blistered and bleeding in her heels, and
without her phone, she felt completely lost.
Thunder cracked overhead. Sarah had no idea where she was, surrounded only by empty lots with no shelter in sight.
She kept running as rain began falling, soaking through her blouse and skirt.
A chill crept up from her feet as her drenched clothes clung to her skin, the wind cutting right through them.
Hugging herself for warmth, she followed street signs. After what felt like forever, she spotted headlights through the downpour and raised her hand weakly. “Help…”
The car stopped, and someone rushed toward her. “Sarah? Sarah!”
Zachary’s heart raced as he lifted her into his arms. “Sarah!”
At East Coast Memorial Hospital.
Sarah woke to find herself in a hospital bed with an IV drip. Her forehead burned with fever.
After a few coughs, she saw Zachary enter with a thermos, setting up a tray table and pouring out some chicken soup.
“Steven made this specially. Drink up.”
Sarah stared at the thermos blankly. “How did I get here?” The last thing she remembered was collapsing in the rain.
“We tracked Grace’s car. She was searching frantically for you, so I knew you’d escaped. I sent teams searching different routes, but no one found you until you collapsed.”
Though Zachary’s voice was calm, anger smoldered in his eyes.
Sarah coughed again. “How’s Mia?”
“She’s okay, just shaken. She was with me when we found you. Seeing you collapse terrified her into silence. She’s at home now. Zachary paused. “Don’t be so trusting next time ”
what i
if it had been real?” Sarah shook her head. She couldn’t have risked it.
Besides, she’d seen the photo, and Mia had been wearing that same outfit that morning.
“What about Grace! Where is she?”

There was still one crucial person to question. She needed to find out who had stolen her paper. Who was this “she” Grace
mentioned?
Zachary’s voice turned cold. “She’s being held at that building.”
“When she kidnapped me, she mentioned someone a ‘she.‘ This seems bigger than Grace. Someone must be pulling her strings.” Sarah glanced at Zachary,
Zachary met her gaze. “Who do you think?”
They exchanged knowing looks, both reaching the same conclusion.
Only one person in the Psychology Department had access to both Sarah and Grace, and harbored such hatred for Sarah – Lucy
Chancer.
“After everything that happened before, how dare she?” Sarah’s eyes turned icy.
Zachary spoke gravely. “Classic move – using others to do your dirty work.”
“I need to see Grace.”
“Finish your soup first. Grace isn’t going anywhere.”
