Chapter 183
“She
may
have disobeyed, but you can’t just abandon her! Lucy was standing up for you against that woman who cheated during your marriage and took all that money. Your sister was defending you – how can you not help her?” Mrs. Chancer jabbed her
finger at James.
Charlotte also tried persuading him. “James, she’s your sister. This affects the Chancer’s reputation. People already mocked our
family last time, and now…”
She wasn’t worried about Lucy – she was concerned about their reputation.
Mrs. Chancer looked at her gratefully. “Charlotte, you’re so thoughtful and proper.”
James frowned. Of course he understood all this.
If it was just Sarah, the situation would be simple. But Zachary kept targeting the Chancer family.
“Really, the nature of this case depends on what the witness says,” Charlotte mused casually.
Mrs. Chancer’s eyes locked onto her. “Charlotte, what do you mean?”
James looked at her puzzled. “The nature?”
“Ultimately, it’s Sarah’s word against Lucy’s. What if Lucy knew nothing about this, and Sarah bribed the witness to frame her?
The witness is just a teacher – it all depends on her testimony.” She glanced at James innocently. “I’m just thinking of Lucy.”
“I know.” James patted her hand.
Perhaps this wasn’t such a bad idea.
As night deepened, Sarah lay in bed, coughing persistently despite her medication.
Around midnight, she suddenly felt worse. She stumbled to the bathroom and threw up twice, then collapsed back onto her bed,
feeling heavy and dizzy.
Her chest burned. Touching her forehead, she realized her fever was back.
She quickly found fever reducers in her cabinet, took one, and tried to sleep, but felt too awful.
An hour later, she woke up, her throat burning like fire.
She could barely lift her arms, completely drained of energy. She managed to grab her phone but couldn’t even raise it.
She wanted to call emergency services but couldn’t manage it, only able to hit redial on her last call.
The call connected quickly, but she couldn’t speak.
“Hello? Sarah? Sarah!”

Sarah tried to respond, but her throat felt like it was smoking, no sound coming out.
Zachary’s worried voice called out, “Sarah, what’s wrong? Say something!”
“Help…”
Burning with fever, she saw the call end before losing consciousness.

Beep! Beep…
The heart monitor beeped steadily in the private hospital room as Sarah lay in bed with an IV.
She opened her eyes groggily, feeling exhausted and dizzy.
Zachary sat beside her bed, his elegant hand resting on the rail.
She reached out to touch his hand – it felt cool.
“Awake?” His tone mixed concern with barely suppressed anger.
“Did you bring me here?” Her last memory was the phone call and the disconnection.
Zachary struggled to describe his feelings. Her silent phone call had terrified him.
He’d immediately driven to her apartment, pounding on the door with no response, finally using the entry code Mia had given
him.
