Charlotte watched James’s reaction with barely concealed anger.
“You’re the shameless one! We came here to make peace. Isn’t money what you want? Weren’t the millions and the villa enough? Name your price to let Lucy go!” Mrs. Chancer glared at Sarah.
“That settlement was what James owed me. And no, I won’t make a deal.”
“You think your refusal matters?” Mrs. Chancer stepped forward, sneering. “Don’t think the Reynolds will protect you forever.
Someone like Zachary could never love you. He’s just playing around – don’t flatter yourself. He hasn’t even gone public about
you.”
“What exactly are you saying to my girlfriend?” A cold voice cut through the room.
Zachary walked in with breakfast, set it down, and moved to Sarah’s side. He looked at Mrs. Chancer with contempt. “The
Chancers seem overconfident lately. How’s that Vista International deal going?”
James flinched. Vista was a Fortune 500 company expanding into their market. They’d initially partnered with Reynolds Enterprises and were seeking an additional partner. He’d tried pitching them but couldn’t even get past their reception.
“It’s not,” he admitted.
Mrs. Chancer latched onto Zachary’s first words. “You two are dating?”
“Yes, Mrs. Chancer. Is that a problem?” Zachary’s eyes narrowed.
James felt his stomach turn as he glanced at Sarah.
Why hadn’t she denied it? Was it true?
“Mr. Reynolds, this woman betrayed my son during their marriage. She’s beneath you – she doesn’t deserve someone of your
status.” Mrs. Chancer looked down her nose at Sarah.
Zachary’s expression turned arctic. “Mrs. Chancer, let’s be clear. James never acted like a husband. He was in love with Charlotte
the whole time. Who’s really beneath whom here?”
“Mr. Reynolds, our business with Sarah is private,” James challenged Zachary’s gaze for the first time.
“I found Sarah in that warehouse. I’m a witness. This absolutely concerns me.” Zachary stepped between them.
James clenched his fists. “Sarah, is he really your boyfriend?”
Sarah looked up at Zachary, meeting his gentle gaze.
She smiled at James. “Yes. Take it up with him.”
“Impossible! Did you throw yourself at him?” James frowned. How had this happened? When?

Charlotte’s face fell. She tugged James’s designer sleeve. “James, focus on Lucy. We’re wasting time.”
Zachary spoke firmly, “If you’re here to negotiate, leave. We’re not interested. James, think carefully about how much more I’ll
tolerate.”
“Mr. Reynolds, James didn’t mean that. We’d prefer to settle this quietly, but if you refuse, we understand.” Charlotte forced a
smile, pulling James toward the door.
Though Mrs. Chancer was furious with Sarah, she dared not cross Zachary. The Reynolds was untouchable.
