But Sarah leaned against him, poking his face with her finger. “Hey? You’re Mr. Reynolds! Why do you have two noses?”
She tried to focus on his nose but couldn’t control her vision, growing dizzier. She collapsed against him. “Zachary likes me.‘
“What did you say?” he asked softly, his eyes full of tenderness as he steadied her.
No matter what he asked, Sarah just giggled.
He’d been drinking too, but wasn’t as drunk as Sarah. Still clear–headed, he arranged for staff to take the other three to their
rooms. He wanted to get Sarah to bed too – it was past one AM and getting cold.
He helped her to her room and tucked her in. As he turned to leave, she grabbed his hand tightly.
“Don’t go, don’t go…”
Zachary’s heart ached. He sat on the bed’s edge. “Okay, I’ll stay.”
“Zachary, Zachary, Zach…” she mumbled, tossing restlessly. He adjusted her covers. “I’m here. What is it?”
“Like…” Sarah murmured.
Zachary leaned closer. “What did you say?”
He heard her whisper his name repeatedly, followed by: “I like you.”
“Zachary, Zachary, Zachary, I like you.”
His head spun, his eyes fixed on her face. He couldn’t help touching her cheek. “Do you mean it?”
Her hair spread messily across the pillow, her expression dreamy.
Zachary controlled himself, kissing her forehead. “Get some rest.”
As he rose, arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him down into a deep kiss.
Something snapped in Zachary’s mind. Already tipsy himself, he lost his last shred of restraint.
With his final moment of clarity, he asked, “Sarah, who am I?”
Sarah whispered in his ear, “Zachary.”
The next moment, passion exploded between them as they embraced.
The next morning, Sarah opened her eyes to find a familiar sleeping face. She stared at Zachary in shock.
Her body’s soreness told her what had happened. She realized with wide eyes that she was sleeping on his arm.
Morning light filtered through the curtains onto Zachary’s face as he opened his eyes lazily to look at her.

Still fuzzy from last night’s drinking, she stared at his long eyelashes, slight smile, and the marks on his neck.
Lost in thought, she heard him chuckle. “Awake?”
Even in her daze, she understood what had happened. Sarah yelped and dove under the covers.
She and Zachary had… what had she done last night?
Zachary pulled back the covers. “Are you hiding now?”
She pulled them back up. “Don’t talk.”
Seeing her startled state, Zachary took her hand. “Don’t be afraid.”
But Sarah couldn’t stay still. She yanked her hand away and stood up.
“Close your eyes,” she said shyly.
Zachary replied, “Okay.”
She quickly wrapped herself in the sheet, found her scattered clothes, and rushed to the bathroom, face burning.
The bathroom door opened and closed with a thud. Zachary got up and walked to the window, pulling open the white curtains to let in the golden morning light.
